A lot without leaving the block

Just five miles from Downtown Tucson, the neighborhood of Naylor has a lot to offer within walking distance. Part of the small block consists of neat rows of homes above and below a park. Lower-priced houses here tend to need some maintenance while the more expensive options have already undergone remodeling. On the western side of the neighborhood, there are churches, schools and restaurants — including an old school family-run diner. “Tucson is one of the only places to be a UNESCO's City of Gastronomy in the United States,” says Patti Scanlon, a Tucson native and Realty Executives Agent who has been selling in the area since 1992. “We’re known for diversity in our eateries.”

Most homes were built in the 1960s and consist of remodeled and well-maintained brick and stucco homes with carports, shaded front porches and palm trees swaying in their front yards. Home exteriors typically match the natural sandy color of the landscape with a handful of brightly colored houses popping up here and there. Many homes sit tucked behind wooden fences or short brick walls with clusters of sturdy shrubs and cacti. Lots in Naylor are on the smaller side, typically ranging between 6,000 and 9,000 square feet.

Located right in the neighborhood, many residents can see Swan Park from their front doors. They can take their kids to the playground, use the grills and picnic tables for an outdoor barbeque or play a game on the multi-use court. Reid Park, home to the Cele Peterson Rose Garden, a dog park and the 24-acre city zoo, is also close by. “It’s a substantial, well-known zoo,” Scanlon says. “We just had a baby giraffe born.” It’s all part of the larger 480-acre Randolph Park, which has golf courses, racquetball facilities and a recreation center.
