Rosemont East is a neighborhood that meets nearly every need
Located off the busy thoroughfare of East Broadway Boulevard, Rosemont East is a place some would hardly ever need to leave. This dense Tucson neighborhood has homes and apartments next to a commercial area with an office park, hotels and other businesses ranging from Mexican and Thai restaurants to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Tony Ray Baker, a Realtor with Re/Max Professionals, says there are probably up to 100 restaurants within a few blocks of the neighborhood. Additionally, Rosemont East is down the road from the Park Plaza Mall, one of Tucson’s destinations for upscale clothing and accessories shopping. “This has more stuff in a few blocks around that corner than in any other area,” Baker says. “There’s so much that you can probably get almost everything you need.”
Housing includes ranch-style and colorful Southwestern homes
Many homes here line wide roads with a mix of paved and dirt sidewalks. While the area isn’t the most walkable in Tucson, some residents here regularly go on neighborhood strolls. “The corner of Broadway and Crayford [Road] is one of the most walkable areas there are,” Baker says. On the blocks just north of East 22nd Street, there are ranch-style and mid-century modern homes surrounded by plants like yucca and agave bushes and prickly pear cacti. A few gated communities are on the northern end of Rosemont East, and homes there include Spanish Revivals and multi-colored Pueblo Revivals. The gated communities are near apartments, and about half of Rosemont East rents. Depending on size, homes here sell from $300,000 to $590,000. Residents in the gated communities pay HOA fees ranging from about $60 to $150.
Dining options include Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines
The area’s restaurants include Copal Contemporary Mexican Cuisine, which serves various Hispanic and Southwestern foods in a place decorated with colorful Day of the Dead art. Shish Kebab House of Tucson is a Mediterranean restaurant serving popular choices like shawarma and gyros and skewered meats on turmeric-coated rice. Drinks include Lebanese Almaza beer, and the restaurant occasionally entertains patrons with belly dancing shows. Chains here include BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. “It’s one of the nicest chains around,” Baker says. “They make consistently good food, and the waiters, managers and everybody in there is super friendly.” Despite the numerous chains, however, residents do need to travel a little for groceries. The neighborhood is a few miles south of Trader Joe’s.
Schools have community events and advanced coursework
Tucson Unified School District allows open enrollment and access to schools outside the neighborhood’s zone. Students here may start at Bonillas Traditional Elementary Magnet School, which gets a B-minus from Niche. Bonillas hosts its Fall Carnival in October, and the event’s activities include a trunk-or-treat and costume contest. Rosement East is home to Alice Vail Middle School, which receives a B-minus. Students may then go to University and Rincon high schools, both of which share a building. Rincon gets a B-minus, while University High receives an A-plus. University High is a selective high school that accepts students based on their GPA and an entrance exam score.
Residents are down the road from a major Tucson park
The area’s only recreational space is Desert Aire Park, which has a tree-lined field that dog owners can visit to let their pets play. Other amenities include a playground with swings and slides and a few picnic benches. Down the road from Rosemont East is the nearly 160-acre Gene C. Reid Park, one of Tucson’s signature recreation destinations. Its many amenities and attractions include walking trails, a dog park and several baseball fields. The park is also home to the Reid Park Zoo and the public, 18-hole Randolph Dell Urich Golf Course.
Nearby Reid Park is a destination for annual events
Reid Park has the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, a stage that hosts several live performances annually. Many come out for Music Under the Stars, a bi-annual series led by the Tucson Pop Orchestra. During the spring and fall, the series showcases symphonic music and other acts honoring Southwestern and Tucson culture.
Commuters have access to East Broadway and Sun Tran
Employers in the neighborhood’s office park include Texas Instruments and the American Board of Radiology. Commuters who don’t own cars have access to several Sun Tran bus stops along the neighborhood’s outskirts. Those who drive have direct access to East Broadway Boulevard, which goes to downtown Tucson, 5 miles west. Less than 10 miles west of the neighborhood, Interstate 10 provides a route to several Tucson area communities. The neighborhood is a few miles west of St. Joseph’s Hospital, a 451-bed facility with a Level I trauma center and a neurology facility. Rosemont East is 10 miles north of the Tucson International Airport, the region’s hub for commercial flights.
