Central location by Campbell Avenue
A Tucson neighborhood just north of the University of Arizona, Samos is appealing for its prime placement, according to Rosie Garcia, real estate advisor with Engel & Volkers Tucson. "It's a highly coveted area because it's by Campbell, which leads up to the foothills." Nearby retail destinations such as La Encantada make the area popular, plus having the university so close is a benefit. "It's kind of a downtown scene, whether you're a student or single or just wanting things to do." Named for a builder who immigrated from the Greek Isle of Samos, this residential community with views of the Catalina Mountains was developed following World War II.

Adobe and brick from the ’40s and ‘50s
Architecture is individualized among approximately 400 homes, most of which date to the 1940s and '50s. Personal touches set each property apart, as bungalows, Mediterranean Revivals, and ranch-style homes show off brick, adobe and stucco flair. Many have garages and carports; there might even be a Little Free Library in front. Tall palms and cacti bring pops of color to the desert landscape. Most homes are 1,000 square feet to 1,600 square feet and fall into the $320,000 to $360,000 range. About 20% of the homes cost $440,000 and up, with sizes maxing out at about 2,000 square feet. "Definitely, if it's a turnkey, with this prime location and under the average sales price, you'll be in a multiple-offer situation," Garcia says. With 18 years of experience in mortgage lending and about a dozen years in real estate, Garcia is very comfortable guiding her clients with financing. "I like to put forth my knowledge and help people make informed decisions."

Campbell Plaza features an Albertsons grocery store, Baja Café on Campbell, Lovin' Spoonfuls Vegan and other eateries and shops. To the north, there are even more to choose from. "There's a bunch of restaurants — it's called Campbell Avenue's Restaurant Row," Garcia says. Located about 6 miles north of Samos, La Encantada is the sole outdoor mall in Tucson. "It's the location of the only Apple store here in town," Garcia says. "You're going to find high-end restaurants and boutiques."

La Paloma for a luxe staycation
Residents and visitors to the area enjoy La Encantada for shopping, but north Tucson is also a destination for leisure and relaxation at country clubs and resorts. Locals seeking a staycation spot close to home are in luck. "It's not even a 10-minute drive," Garcia says. "A lot of people are here dropping off their kids at U of A, and there's the snowbirds, only here for the winter, gone for the summer; as well as people who own second homes." Hotels, resorts and La Paloma Country Club, with its 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, characterize the posh vibe in this area.

Salpointe Catholic High School's 40-acre campus comprises roughly a quarter of the neighborhood. "It's a well-known school here in Tucson," Garcia says. "It's been there since the 1950s, so there are a lot of generations that have gone to that high school. My kids went there." The school has an A grade from Niche.
