Ranch-style homes, custom contemporary homes are common

Westside Development is laid out in a grid-shaped structure running from north to south with swirls of cul-de-sacs winding toward the northeastern half while the southern portion is more rural. In the northern half, narrow sidewalks border broad, paved streets with plenty of space for residents to park. Yards are compact, with rooms for decorative shrubbery, small rockeries, and a palm tree or two. In the south, winding roads lead residents around the desert landscape where homes are fewer and farther between. Home styles range from Spanish Mission to ranches, with a few bungalows sprinkled throughout. The prices range from $250,000 to $400,000, with the average home costing around $300,000. Homes with less than 1,000 square feet tend to sell for a bit less, ranging from $100,000 to $230,000, with the average home selling for around $180,000.

Locals dine at Daisy Mae's and shop at Westgate Shopping Center

For dinner, head to Daisy Mae's Steak House, a local favorite. “Daisy Mae’s has been there forever,” says Huerta. “They’ve got the most flavorful steak in town. Everything is cooked outside on the grill.” For a more casual vibe, try Catalina Barbeque and Sports Bar featuring Southwestern-style barbecue and scenic views of the green expanse of Starr Pass Golf Club.
