Gilcrease Hills holds a lot of history within its borders. Most homes were first built in the early to the mid-20th century. However, new developments are still underway. Because of its position in the northwest corner of the city, owning a car is vital in Gilcrease Hills. Prime destinations such as downtown Tulsa, the airport and major highways are easily accessible to residents in the neighborhood. While Tulsa does offer a public transit system, stops are limited to the south border and eastern streets surrounding the Tulsa Country Club.
Despite its position on the northwest edge of the city, the community remains close to many popular Tulsa destinations. Within the neighborhood, residents can run errands or grab a quick bite to eat at Gilcrease Hills Center, a small shopping mall located in the southwest corner of the neighborhood. On the east side of Gilcrease Hills, members of Tulsa Country Club can enjoy an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool, fine dining and more. Those looking for an eclectic choice of activities outside of the neighborhood can certainly find it in Tulsa’s downtown area 2 miles to the south.
Tulsa Public Schools
All the area’s designated public schools earn overall Niche grades of C and C-minus. In the quiet expanse of northern Gilcrease Hills is the public elementary school Greenwood Leadership Academy. Founded in 2017, this school enrolls around 350 students from prekindergarten through fifth grade and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 22-1. Students in grades six through 12 can attend Central Middle and High School, where learners can take unique elective courses like animation, fashion design and certified production techniques.
Parks and perusing art
A short walk west will take locals to Gilcrease Museum. The museum, established in 1949, houses an impressive collection of North American art spanning thousands of years. The grounds are also home to a library of historic photographs, rare books and 23 acres of serene gardens. Events such as lectures and garden tours are often held at Gilcrease Museum.
There are numerous options for outdoor recreation within a mile of the neighborhood. Historic Owen Park is across the southern border of Gilcrease Hills. John Starks Park and Hill Park are located to the east. These parks have a wealth of amenities from playgrounds to basketball courts. The Gathering Place, Tulsa’s most famous outdoor landscape, is located about 4 miles from the neighborhood. Tulsans can often be seen walking along the Arkansas River, only 2 miles south of the neighborhood.

Gilcrease Hills residents have easy access to many attractive destinations within the city. Tulsa’s downtown area is less than 3 miles south and the airport is around a 10-mile drive east. Tulsa’s major roadways, including Interstate 244, border the neighborhood’s southeast corner for easy travel further into the city. The neighborhood itself houses a small shopping mall in its southwest corner and a country club on the east side. Traveling in and out of Gilcrease Hills is easiest by car. Tulsa offers a public transit system making stops in the south and east areas of the neighborhood.
