Commuters in and out of Tower Heights
Tower Heights is a blue collar suburb that’s 10 miles east of downtown Tulsa. Route 66 runs right through the middle of this neighborhood, giving it a mainline connection to the city center. There are a few small parks dotting the landscape, but Realtor Patty Contreras with Fathom Realty describes it as a place where commercial infill is interspersed with modest housing styles. “You’ll see a lot of employees living here who work in construction, or some who own small businesses, especially in the growing Hispanic community,” Contreras says. She also mentions that while people travel outside of Tower Heights for work, other commuters drive to it. “People come to work in the offices that are in the Eastgate Metroplex, which sits on the neighborhood’s south side,” she says.

Modest brick homes starting at $150k
Contreras describes the neighborhood as being made up of mostly smaller brick homes in the $150,000 to $200,000 range. These typically feature three bedrooms and one bathroom, spread across 1,200 square feet of living space. Lots are about 7,000 square feet on average. Overall, about 3,000 homes make up Tower Heights, built between 1960 and 1980. “Most of the homes have yards here,” Contreras says. “It’s the kind of neighborhood where you’ll see driveways, garages, grassy lawns. But there are some condo properties mixed in.” Beyond these options, there are a few properties around the Eastgate Metroplex that have more square footage. Prices start around $250,000.

Easy access to major transportation routes
“You’ll definitely need a car for basic errands like groceries,” Contreras says. Centrally located Route 66 makes it easy to reach those destinations. The cross street is 145th Avenue, and that’s another corridor that drivers can benefit from: it leads to Interstate 44 and the Crosstown Expressway, which lead to retail spots like Walmart Supercenter. Those who prefer to use public transportation have options. Buses run frequently along Route 66, especially where it meets 129th Avenue on the neighborhood’s western border – another popular bus route.
Mexican restaurants and salsa music
“There are a lot of businesses here where people can go for entertainment or grocery shopping,” Contreras says. For example, Imperio is a nightlife venue where the dancefloor brims with salsa and cumbia music. Given the robust Hispanic population in this area, the dining scene is full of Mexican options like Tacos San Pedro. Food trucks such as Tolucas Grill are popular, too: they serve dishes like fish tacos, but it also fast food classics like hamburgers and hotdogs. For home cooking or snack pickups, there's an Aldi nearby.
