The neighborhood’s younger residents are zoned into highly rated Tyler Public Schools, although there are also numerous private education options nearby.

Taqueria Flor De Taxco is a popular local eatery

The Highland is primarily residential, but homeowners are conveniently located next to South Tyler’s growing commercial areas. Taqueria Flor De Taxco is a popular local eatery serving birria tacos and carne asada. Residents can head to nearby Whataburger, an iconic Texas chain known for its burgers and breakfast taquitos. The Republic Icehouse is a laid-back restaurant and bar that hosts live music and karaoke on the weekends. Broadway Square is under 3 miles away and features several name-brand retailers, including Lululemon, American Eagle and Coach. The indoor retail center opened in 1975 and is one of two shopping malls in the city. Tudor Revivals can also be found scattered through the forested streets. Contemporary townhouses are available in the northern section of the neighborhood and sell from $150,000 to $250,000. Dual credit courses at Tyler Legacy High School

The highly rated Tyler Independent School District serves the neighborhood and maintains a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. Younger students begin their education at Clarkson Elementary, which receives a B rating on Niche, and Hubbard Middle School, which receives an A-minus. The A-minus-rated Tyler Legacy High School offers several dual credit courses and the AP Capstone Diploma Program. Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School is an A-plus-rated private education option for parents to consider. The University of Texas at Tyler is 2 miles away. Residents can walk to the Tyler Music Academy, which has helped hundreds of students on their journey through music since 2011. Hit the trails at Rose Rudman Park

Rose Rudman Park is 2 miles away and serves as the recreation hub. The city-maintained green space features a 1.2-mile concrete trail for joggers, walkers and bicyclists to explore. The trail connects to Southside Park, where children run and play on the ADA-accessible playground equipment. UT Tyler offers other recreation amenities, including a disc golf course and miles of biking trails. Tyler Pounds Regional Airport is 13 miles away and services multiple daily flights to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Dallas and Shreveport are both around 100 miles away, roughly equal to a 2-hour drive.
