Centrally-located San Antonio suburb

Universal City is a 20,000-resident suburb conveniently located on the northeast side of San Antonio. “It’s at the intersection of I-35 and the 1604 corridor, so it’s incredibly centrally located,” says Cesar Amezcua, Broker and Owner at CA & Company, who has consistently been one of the Top 50 Residential Real Estate Agents recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal. Universal City is right across the road from JBSA-Randolph, attracting military personnel and their families. “It also has the new corporate headquarters for Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union,” Amezcua says. As Universal Park homes are so conveniently located near major highways and retail areas, the buyers' market is competitive.

In the Cibolo Crossing subdivision, emerging new constructions average four bedrooms and stretch into the $500,000s. Apartments are also available to rent, ranging from $674 to $1,795 per month.

Taking Interstate 35 to Austin

Universal City is about 17 miles from downtown San Antonio and about 63 miles from Austin, which is a straight shot up Interstate 35. Universal City is considered a car-dependent area and there are currently no bus routes in service. Of San Antonio’s universities, the nearest is Wayland Baptist University. The nearest hospital is Toepperwein Medical Center, less than 3 miles away. Though residents use San Antonio International Airport 12 miles away, living right across the road from JBSA-Randolph means aircraft activity from the U.S. Air Force is significant.

The Great Texas Air Show at JBSA-Randolph

From the holiday fair and tree-lighting to the monthly pancake breakfasts hosted by the fire department, Universal City has no shortage of community events. Additionally, the annual Great Texas Air Show at JBSA-Randolph features the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team flying F-35A Lightning II aircraft. Locals look to the skies to see impressive displays performed by military and civilian pilots.
