Dining options nearby are plentiful: Signature Grill serves up grab-and-go Indian fusion cuisine, while Four Breakfast & More offers a menu of modernized brunch fare and Latin dishes. King Park lends the community its name and offers an 8-acre recreational space in the heart of the neighborhood. The park gets its name from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and features a 12-foot sculpture titled “Byways to Equality,” built by local artist Preston Jackson. To the neighborhood’s west, Douglass Park shares the theme of civil rights heritage with a name and public art inspired by Frederick Douglass. Amenities nearby include a splash pad, sports courts and a community center with open gym hours and all-ages programs. King Park’s location at the threshold between Urbana and Champaign places residents near a wide selection of activities. Local musicians and touring artists take the stage at stops such as the Canopy Club and the Rose Bowl, while bars such as Pour Bros. Craft Taproom, Joe’s Brewery and Gallery Art Bar each offer distinct spins on the classic night out. The Champaign County Fairgrounds are to the neighborhood’s immediate east. Each summer, the area hosts the annual Champaign County Fair, which includes midway games, a beauty pageant, a demolition derby and other events. For medical emergencies, two hospitals are available on the south end of the neighborhood: OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center and Carle Foundation Hospital. For flights out of the Champaign area, University of Illinois Willard Airport is 8 miles south of the neighborhood in Savoy.
