Mix of newer construction and mid-20th-century homes

Driving down the neighborhood's winding roads, you'll see a mix of mid- to late-20th-century homes, including Cape Cods, split-levels and ranch-style houses. There is also a lot of newer construction, including New Traditional and modern Craftsman styles. Some of the townhouses have a contemporary design, with more windows and geometric lines. Most prices range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$800,000s, but some larger homes can cost over $1 million. Townhouses typically cost between the high $100,000s and the mid-$500,000s. The median single-family home price is in the high $500,000s. That's higher than in White Bear Lake but significantly lower than in North Oaks.

Regional and city parks near the water offer outdoor fun

The city has seemingly endless outdoor recreation, thanks to over 100 acres of city parks and even more green space throughout the region. “Vadnais Heights is known for its park system,” says Realtor Joe Kasel with Re/Max Results, who has over 20 years of experience in the area.

Vadnais Heights Community Park is one of the most popular parks in the city, with amenities such as athletic fields, playgrounds and open skating. You can also hike the trails at Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park, which has over 5 miles of paths that wind through the woods and by the water. Because Vadnais Lake is a drinking water reservoir, you can’t boat or fish in the water. Instead, people go to designated shoreline fishing areas or the swimming beach along Snail Lake.

Local events like Vadnais Heights Days bring people together

Vadnais Heights has a busy events calendar, but the highlight of the year is Vadnais Heights Days, a jam-packed community celebration every August. Between enjoying the car show, family-friendly tournaments and the parade, people can explore the Makers Market and listen to live music. The festivities end with a fireworks show at Community Park. There are also recurring events, like the Music in the Park series, and holiday celebrations, like the Scarecrow Trail & Halloween Party.

Most people drive, reaching the Twin Cities in about 20 minutes

Interstates 35 East and 694 run through the city, making it easy to commute to the Twin Cities. Vadnais Heights is less than 10 miles (15 minutes) from Downtown Saint Paul and just over 15 miles (20 minutes) from downtown Minneapolis. “The appeal here starts with a great location within the Twin Cities metro area,” says Community Development Director Nolan Wall. “We’ve also got great schools, a great park system, and a good mix of commercial and residential land uses.” While most people drive, there is a park-and-ride station for Metro Transit buses along I-35E and County Road.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
