Southern OKC struck oil in the early 1930s, leading to the founding of Valley Brook-Crossroads.
Small town in southern OKC
Southern Oklahoma City struck oil in the early 1930s, leading to the construction of Valley Brook, a housing camp for oil workers. Today, with the area's oil industry mostly dried up, Valley Brook is a community of less than 700 people. Just 7 miles from downtown OKC, the town has kept its small-town appeal. “People wave every time you walk by,” says Diana Boyd, a Realtor with Day Realty Inc. who has over 20 years' experience selling homes. “I’ve had several of my renters tell me that when they need something, there are always neighbors who are helpful.” The town has its own municipal government office and police department on the northern end of the community. Valley Brook is just minutes away from Interstates 35 and 240, which provides easy convenience to OKC and Tinker Air Force Base, just 8 miles away.
Traditional homes at affordable prices
Housing options throughout Valley Brook mainly consist of traditional and ranch-style houses, with a blend of homes available for sale and rental properties. Homes can sell anywhere from $60,000 for two-bedroom homes to nearly $150,000 for renovated properties. “There’s people who have been there forever, and there’s also renters,” Boyd says. It’s not rare to see a home bought by an investor and then rented or sold after renovations.

Crime
According to the CAP Index, Valley Brooke has a slightly higher homicide and assault score than the national average. However, Boyd says that the town’s police department is a significant presence in the area. “They do have their own police department… if anyone has any issues or something going on, they are there in minutes. They’re always patrolling, which cuts down on crime,” Boyd says. Neighborhood institutions like the Camille Avenue Baptist Church are also prominent in the community, with weekly services and clothes giveaways on the second Saturday of each month.
