A community rooted in its local businesses in Meadow Homes
A mile-long stretch of East Fourth Plain Boulevard in Vancouver's Meadow Homes neighborhood is home to four Mexican restaurants, three Asian/Hawaiian restaurants, two ethnic grocery stores, and a family-run breakfast joint that's served Dutch apple pie since 1962. These businesses reflect the diversity in this neighborhood and solidify its place in the city's Fourth Plain International District.
Ranch style homes and walkable streets
Stretching from East Fourth Plain Boulevard to part of the Bonneville Power Administration's high-voltage power line corridor, Meadow Homes was an agricultural area that filled with Ranch-style houses during the decades after World War II. These houses, which fetch $300,000 to $450,000 a piece, sit on fairly uniform 6,000- to 9,000-square-foot lots where you have space for a small backyard, a grassy front lawn, and a driveway leading up to your single-car garage. The neighborhood's tree cover is sporadic, and sidewalks line its streets. This last touch also takes you straight to the VINE bus' General Anderson stop, where you can catch a ride to downtown or the Vancouver Mall every 12 to 15 minutes during its peak hours.
International studies at Fort Vancouver High School
Fort Vancouver High School sits at the neighborhood's southern end. This high school officially took on the Fort Vancouver Center for International Studies moniker in 2006 to reflect its commitment to teaching students about global issues and how they can positively impact the world. Students who live in the area will attend either King Elementary School or Ogden Elementary School before moving on to McLoughlin Middle School and Fort Vancouver.
Nearby playgrounds and walking trails
The neighborhood is also home to Meadow Homes Park, where you'll find a large playground with a swing set, two sets of playground equipment children can climb on, and six slides taking you down to its soft bark surface. The Meadow Homes Park is also slightly more than two miles east of Leverich Park on a paved portion of the 8-mile Burnt Bridge Creek Trail that runs from Stewart's Glen to Northeast 97th Avenue in the city's Marion neighborhood.
International cuisine and long-standing eateries in Meadow Homes
And then there's Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, where you can grab what you need for tonight's dinner at a Grocery Outlet, the Mercado Latino Mexican Grocery Store, or the Sorya Asian Market. The Anoush Deli & International Foods Mediterranean grocery store and WinCo Foods on the neighborhood's eastern boundary, Northeast Andressen Street, are worth a visit if the other three grocery stores in Meadow Homes don't have what you need. Peppered among the shopping centers that house these businesses are a variety of places to eat, including the Fortside Brewery's Tasting Room, which is best known for its Orange Whip Hazy IPA, Don Pedro Mexican Food, the Pho Ton Vietnamese restaurant, and, of course, The Plainsman, which has been serving country fried steak and its signature streusel-topped apple pie for more than 60 years.
Combined with its convenient location on Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, the restaurants and grocery stores surrounding the Meadow Homes neighborhood give it a variety of flavors that make it a great place to eat and an even better place for you to call home.
