Slow-paced living on the golf course in Capri Isles

Capri Isles is a residential area of Venice surrounding Capri Isles Boulevard. Most homes sit just off the greens or within walking distance of the Capri Isles Golf Club or the Waterford Golf Club. Many people come here to downsize and retire, with a median age of 72. Along with community amenities and golf courses right outside the door, downtown Venice and the Gulf Coast are within a 5-mile radius. “You’ll find numerous condominium neighborhoods, all with a bit of a different flair and feel,” says Julie Willett, the broker/owner of NextHome Beach to Bay and a Venice resident of 28 years.

Condos dominate the market, with a few single-family options

Buyers primarily find two-bedroom condos, situated in small clusters. “Each community has varying levels of fees and amenities,” Willett says. Many of these communities feel like mini villages or resorts, featuring pools, clubhouses and fitness centers. Other areas, such as Bridle Oaks, have single-family homes. Architecture typically features Mediterranean influences, like tile roofs and stucco exteriors. Condos sell for $115,000 to $355,000, while single-family homes start at a higher price point, ranging from about $300,000 to $415,000.

Getting active on the golf course, in the water and along the trails

Golf is one of the biggest draws to the area. Capri Isles Golf Club and Waterford Golf Club are both open to the public. The courses also offer a bundled membership package that grants priority access to each venue, as well as to Calusa Lakes Golf Club. Residents can also quickly reach other outdoor recreation spaces. “It’s close to the Legacy Trail, a closed, 20-plus-mile bike path that spans through Sarasota County,” Willett says. “It’s also close to the Intracoastal Waterway for kayaking, boating and water activities.” Venice Beach is 5 miles away on the Gulf Coast. Wellfield Park, located just outside Capri Isles, has croquet and soccer fields, baseball diamonds and courts for basketball and tennis. The Pinebrook Fitness Trail, located next door, features exercise stations along a forested path.

Commercial development on Venice Avenue and downtown

Venice Avenue houses restaurants and stores just south of Capri Isles homes. Dining options include local chains like The Original Word of Mouth diner or Le Petit Jardin Cafe, a French breakfast and lunch spot. Venice Commons is also on this street, featuring a Publix, Walgreens and other businesses. The community is 3 miles from downtown Venice, which offers a variety of boutique shops and restaurants, including TJ Carney's, a casual pub with live music and trivia nights, as well as Cafe Venice Restaurant and Bar, a fine dining establishment. The nearest Target and Walmart are 6 miles south.

Niche ranks Sarasota County Schools No. 2 in the state

Children often begin at Garden Elementary and Venice Middle, both of which earn A-minus ratings from Niche. Venice High scores an A, and high school students may opt to pursue career and technical education pathways in fields such as agriculture and hospitality. Sarasota County offers families a range of school choice options, including magnet schools, controlled open enrollment and out-of-district transfers.

Quick access to Interstate 75 and medical care

Commuters can reach Interstate 75 within 5 miles and head to Tampa, 70 miles north, or Fort Myers, 60 miles south. Health care is 2 miles away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice. The nearest commercial flights depart from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, located 30 miles away.
