Golf and club memberships at Venice Golf and Country Club
Venice Golf and Country Club is a luxury gated community where rows of homes twine around ponds and a championship golf course. “It encompasses 460 acres altogether,” says Scott Swonger, a P.A./Realtor at HomeSmart who has sold homes in the area for eight years. “It’s a very established neighborhood; they just remodeled the clubhouse and restaurant and athletic facility, all within the last two and a half or three years.” Golf and social clubs are at the heart of living in this community, which is carbon-neutral and the only private member-owned club in Venice. Only residents can be members, but membership is a requirement for residents, who choose between a golf or club membership. Golf members can play golf unrestricted year-round, but club members have more limited access — six rounds from November through April but unlimited golf from May through October. Every member has access to all the community’s other amenities and social clubs.

A challenging golf course alongside athletic courts and classes
The club’s 18-hole championship golf course underwent a $2.5 million renovation in 2015 and a smaller improvement project in 2022. The club has a professional golf shop and hosts regular tournaments for men, women, teams and couples. Venice Golf and Country Club also has tennis and bocce courts and a junior Olympic-sized pool. Professionally coached lessons or clubs are available in golf, tennis and swimming, and the tennis courts can be used for pickleball on weekdays. The community’s wellness center also has a spa and a gym where residents can take exercise classes. “They also have boat and RV facilities where you can park your boat and RV,” Swonger says, adding that residents often drive golf carts around the community. For day trips to the beach, Venice Golf and Country Club is only 7 miles from Venice Beach on the Gulf.

Houses at the edge of the green and membership fees
Venice’s 587 houses typically have Mediterranean influences, with tile roofs and stucco exteriors. Most have a lanai — an exterior room enclosed with windows or a screen — containing a private pool. “Because of the way it’s set up, there are many homes that are on the golf course itself,” Swonger says, adding that because the club is so established, no new homes are being built. “Homes are 1,300 square feet all the way up to 3,600 square feet.” Small homes without private pools can start as low as $400,000, and most homes max out at about $750,000. Some can climb over this, though, with particularly large, updated homes occasionally reaching about $1.2 million.
When new residents close on a house, there’s a nonrefundable membership entry fee: $50,000 for the Golf Membership and $25,000 for the Club Membership. From there, there are annual membership dues and fees related to HOA landscaping maintenance. But unlike many Florida communities, Venice Golf and Country Club doesn’t have a Community Development District, freeing residents from the fees added to residents’ taxes in CDDs. Swonger says it “saves people a couple thousand dollars a year.”
Mediterranean barrel tile roofs and archways are a key characteristic of some Venice Golf & Country Club homes.
Smaller homes not on the golf course are available in Venice Golf & Country Club.

Preparing for hurricane season, low CAP Index
Hurricane season is a big part of life in Florida. Thanks to its location a few miles away from the coast, First Street, a climate risk data organization, says Venice Golf and Country Club has a minor risk of flooding but an extreme risk of experiencing high winds. The City of Venice makes storm preparations and updates residents on impending storms using its social media accounts. The Venice Golf and Country Club has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
Social clubs and events throughout the year
Venice Golf and Country Club is a very community-oriented neighborhood with tons of social clubs and events. In fact, it has over 270 social events every year. It’s not just athletic clubs, either — there’s a bridge club, a wine club and more. “It’s a great community for somebody that enjoys the social life,” Swonger says.
A restaurant right in the community, more options in downtown Venice
The club has an upscale restaurant on its grounds, which Swonger says has no minimum spending requirement. The restaurant has seasonal menus, daily specials and craft cocktails, and residents can dine in, pick up food to take home or rent the space out for private parties. For more dining and shopping, residents drive about 6 miles to downtown Venice. “That’s where the boutique shops are and the independent restaurants, but it’s also located close enough to the big grocery stores,” Swonger says. Local staples like Darrell’s Restaurant, which is known for its Southern comfort food, are in the downtown. Grocery stores are often a little closer to home, though; there’s a Winn-Dixie less than 2 miles away and a Publix about 3 miles away.
The Venice Golf & Country Club has it's own fine dining restaurant available to resident members.
The local Publix is currently the closest grocery store to Venice Golf & Country Club.

A short drive to nearby highways and a new local hospital
As a gated community, Venice Golf and Country Club contains quiet residential streets. Center Road is the biggest nearby road, hosting one of its three gated entrances. The community is located between Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41, both of which are several miles away; it’s 4 miles to I-75 and 3 miles to Highway 41. With no public transportation and spread out amenities, this is a very car-dependent neighborhood. Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Venice location, which opened in late 2021, is about 7 miles away. The hospital reached capacity just days after opening for the first time, and expansion projects were completed in 2024, including additional private rooms and a $90 million expansion that added 30,000 square feet to the hospital’s Emergency Care Center. Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is 28 miles away.
