But there are also more easily accessible public spaces. “Verona Park is absolutely beautiful,” says Myers. “My grandson likes to ride his bike down the paths there.” The 54-acre park features a pair of lakes and a bridge that’s a popular Instagram-worthy spot. An attached boathouse is often where fishers congregate. Bocce ball courts and a playground offer a way to stay active, while visitors also lounge in paddleboats or in the grass for the summer concert series. Montclair Golf Club on the east end is praised for offering challenges, thanks to four 9-hole courses.

A roughly 5-mile drive north will also lead drivers to Interstate 80. Verona is about 20 miles west of New York City, so it’s a popular location for commuters. Train riders can hop over to Montclair, which has several transit stations, as well as entertaining diversions. “The other benefit of Verona is that the town of Montclair is straight down Bloomfield, and there are a lot of lively destinations, like an independent movie theater,” says Myers.
