Parks, schools and a central location draw buyers to Brigadoon
Brigadoon is a neighborhood on the west side of Virginia Beach where Scottish-themed street names like Bagpipers Lane and Kilt Street reflect the community's playful connection to the musical it was named after. Folks settle here for its established suburban homes, which are within walking distance of neighborhood parks and the wooded Stumpy Lake Natural Area. Brigadoon’s centralized location between several shopping districts and its proximity to the region’s military bases add to its appeal. Residents stay connected through events organized by the neighborhood’s civic league, and students can attend highly rated public schools.
Midcentury homes on leafy lots from the mid-$300,000s
A neighborhood developed primarily from the 1950s through the 1970s, Brigadoon showcases classic midcentury architecture along wide cul-de-sac-capped streets. Ranch-style homes and raised ranch-style homes are most common, but you’ll also find Colonial Revivals, Cape Cods and a few New Traditionals. New construction is rare. Mature trees shade the lots here, ranging from less than a quarter of an acre to more than a third of an acre. Prices start in the mid-$300,000s and can reach the lower $600,000s. “Buyers are drawn to the area’s affordability compared to the city,” says Jillian Hill, a Virginia Beach local and broker with Prodigy Realty. “You can get more house for your money around Brigadoon.”
