Bayshore
Neighborhood in Waldport, Oregon
Lincoln County 97394
Single-story cottages and homes with beach access
Popular to Bayshore are single-story cottages and according to Powell, "there are lots of single-level homes mixed between multi-family and manufactured homes. There are also quite a few vacation rentals in the area." Prices fluctuate between $400,000 and $999,000, averaging two or three bedrooms each and those on the higher end are often equipped with outdoor decks, manicured front yards and beach access. Properties typically remain on the market for about 57 days.Enjoying the beaches all year long
In addition to the tons of beach access in Bayshore, the neighborhood is also a two-mile drive from both Holly Beach and Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site. At any of these spots, residents can swim, go fishing or take boats out onto the Alsea Bay. Audra Powell, a Principal Broker/ CRS with Advantage Real Estate, has sold several homes in the Waldport area and says many folks are drawn to the weather. “It gets pretty cold but the temperatures are moderate so even in the winter, it’s only about 40 degrees. You can still go out walking. Sometimes, we have really nice days. It can be sixty and sunny in the middle of winter on the beach,” she says.Bayshore schooling options
Crestview Heights Elementary School teaches kindergarten through sixth grade and holds a C-plus from Niche. Waldport High/Middle School, which teaches seventh to twelfth grade, has a B rating and offers Career Technical Education courses like commercial art and natural resources/forestry.Watching whales and storms
Locals treat Bayshore’s coastal environment as a place for spectator events, even in the colder months. “People like to go whale watching in December and January,” Powell says, referring to the crowds that gather to glimpse the gray whales common to this part of the coast. Another popular activity – though this one may go over better with some folks more than others – is watching storms. “A lot of people come for winter storm-watching. We get big waves and high winds and people will come just to watch the waves on the beach,” she says. However, because of the dangers that stem from such events, residents are advised to exercise caution and seek places to safely observe the storms.Nearby cities and Highway 101
Bayshore is nine miles from Yachats and 15 miles south of Newport, two cities that open up to even more coastline, shopping, dining and events. The scenic Highway 101 stretches the length of Oregon and beyond, allowing drivers to reach faraway cities like San Jose, California to the south and Tumwater, Washington to the north.Dining and shopping in downtown Waldport
Because Bayshore has no restaurants or retail of its own, residents wanting to dine out or shop will need to make a short drive across the Alsea Bay Bridge. Across this bridge is downtown Waldport. Here they will find eateries like contemporary burger joint skoSH and family-owned restaurant Salty Dawg Bar & Grill. They can also try baked goods from small artisan bakery Pacific Sourdough, which rotates out their bread varieties every week. Ray’s Food Place is the closest spot to stock up on essential grocery items for the week.
