Brick homes from the 20th century
Most homes date back to the 1940s and 50s, though newer construction in the latter half of the 20th century is common, too. Sidewalks stretch past tight lots between a quarter to half of an acre in size. Colonial Revivals with exterior brick chimneys share the same zip code as ranch-style homes and modest, minimal traditional dwellings. Masonry facades are typical in the area and highlight several American Foursquare styles. Centennial homes are frequent and require extensive investment and renovation, with initial costs falling between the low $20,000s and the high $80,000s. As square footage and general maintenance increases, prices increase, starting in the low $90,000s and peaking in the mid-$200,000s. “As a first-time home buyer with a small family, buying here really gave us the chance to have a decent-sized home in a good neighborhood,” says Taeia Kaley-Dolan, Northeast Warren resident and owner/operator of The Sage and Honey Homestead.Youth baseball and safety near the Mahoning River
In addition to playgrounds recently updated by government initiatives and access to the Mahoning River, Burban Park is home to the Warren Athletic Club, which often uses its onsite baseball fields for games and matches. Packard Park is one of the city's most prominent recreational spots, with a splash pad, playground and skate park that provides ramps and quarterpipes for inline skating and skateboards. The state and county governments recently removed the Summit Dam, creating a safer environment for anyone choosing to boat on the Mahoning River. Though safer than it once was, authorities still advise against swimming in the Mahoning. The neighborhood is between two drive-in movie theaters, Elm Road Drive-In Theater and Skyway Twin Drive-In Theater.Warren teens jumpstart their degrees
Students can begin their education at the neighborhood's McGuffey School, which receives a C on Niche and opens its doors for kindergarteners to eighth graders. Warren G. Harding High has a C-plus from Niche, and enrolled teens can get a head start on an undergraduate degree through Ohio's College Credit Plus initiative. Older students seeking a college education can attend Kent State University’s Trumbull Campus, found 3 miles north.Performances and local haunts bring fun to the area
Locals visit W.D. Packard Music Hall for theatrical performances and concerts. Music enthusiasts also gather at the Warren Community Amphitheatre in Perkins Park for live events like the popular River Rock at the Amp. The Warren Ghost Walk is a local tradition showcasing the city's history through tours of "haunted" locations.Traveling by air or the WRTA bus
The community is near major thoroughfares like Interstate 422 that connect residents to the rest of Trumbull County and surrounding areas. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is about 15 miles away and offers flights all over the country. Commuters can take the Western Reserve Transit Authority (WRTA) city bus for local travel. The community is about 5 miles north of the Trumbull Regional Medical Center.Shopping along Parkman Road and the growing downtown
Opportunities for grocery shopping in the area are never more than a mile away, with Giant Eagle on the east side and Aldi on the west. Parkman Road’s Trumbull Plaza is a local center of retail and dining options. Located a mile southwest in Austin Village, Cockeye BBQ offers wood-fired meats and down-home sides alongside an ice cream shop with pints of pistachio, butter pecan and blueberry cheesecake. A newcomer to the neighborhood, Compadres has been offering laid-back Mexican standards like tacos and fajitas since 2023. "The city has experienced a revamping through local businesses and significant investments from developers over the last five to seven years," says Meghan Reed, director of the Trumbull County Historical Society.
