Coggeshall offers quiet living near the Touisset Marsh Wildlife Refuge
Tucked away at the southernmost tip of Touisset Point, the Coggeshall neighborhood is a secluded, leafy enclave outside of Warren, Rhode Island. Bungalows and cottages line the narrow streets, which mostly end in cul-de-sacs by necessity since the neighborhood is surrounded on three sides by water, with the Touisset Marsh Wildlife Refuge halting development further north. With only one road providing access to the neighborhood, and the conspicuous lack of sidewalks discouraging a meandering tourist from stumbling upon the community, Coggeshall is a cloistered neighborhood that is populated mostly by retirees and families with deep ties to the area. “It’s probably one of the most secluded neighborhoods in Warren,” says Albert Hajdaraj, a real estate agent with Real Broker, LLC who lives in the area and has sold homes in Warren for 6 years. “You don’t go to that area for restaurants and shopping, you’re really going for the lifestyle and the properties there. It’s kind of a hidden community that offers a more upscale lifestyle.”
Coggeshall homes with water views have high demand but low inventory
The resort-like waterfront aesthetic of Coggeshall paired with the low inventory of homes makes it a high-demand area, and the prices reflect it. An 1,800-square-foot home will cost around $675,000, and that’s if a buyer is fortunate enough to spot one of the homes in the neighborhood up for sale. But for those who do manage to move into the community, residents can watch the sun rise over Mt. Hope Bay and set over the Kickamuit River without having to travel more than a half mile in either direction.
Public education through the Bristol Warren Regional School District
Children in Coggeshall attend schools in the Bristol Warren Regional School District. Hugh Cole Elementary School has a B rating from Niche and serves more than 600 students. The Kickemuit Middle School, rated B by Niche, serves students in grades 6, 7, and 8, while the Mt. Hope High School provides a vast spectrum of extracurricular activities and athletics, from esports to ice hockey, with a B-minus from Niche.
Country club and nature reserves provide outdoor recreation
The Touisset Point Community Club offers an exclusive, optional membership to residents that grants access to a clubhouse and tennis courts, and hosts summer camps and other outdoor programs. Meanwhile, the 66-acre Touisset Marsh Wildlife Refuge, owned by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, provides a mile-long loop walking trail with waterfront views and plenty of opportunities to spot bluebirds, ospreys, and other birds.
Downtown Warren offer abundant shopping and dining options
Although Coggeshall’s natural borders give it a sense of being closed to the outside world, residents are only 5 miles away from Main Street in downtown Warren. Hajdaraj says that while most of Coggeshall’s residents enjoy the private nature of their community, the proximity to Warren keeps it from feeling cut off. “You’re very close to restaurants and shopping – 8 to 10 minutes from Warren, and only 15 to 18 minutes from Bristol,” he said. Along Main Street, locals can explore the Made in Warren Artist Cooperative for jewelry, ceramics, artwork, and more. For nightlife, the Galactic Theatre hosts local musicians and screens vintage films from the 1920s to the 1970s.
New England is known for its seafood, and the dockside restaurant The Wharf serves lobster rolls either New England or Connecticut style, as well as upscale entrees like the swordfish in a lemon-garlic butter compound. Coggeshall residents can also get casual bar grub and catch some live music at the Hometown Tavern. The Stop & Shop grocery store is 7 miles from the heart of Coggeshall, which will take around 19 minutes in a car.
