Greenwood
Ranches and cottages from the 1950s
Homes in Greenwood sit closely together on neat, organized lots, reflecting the grid system the neighborhood is based on. Most houses were built during the '50s and '60s, resulting in an abundance of architectural styles such as ranches and cottages. "The houses here are more uniform, your standard 1950s-1960s homes," Alvarez says. "People have lived here for a long time and settled down here; they're proud of their community." Prices start at $285,000 and go up to $500,000, with the average house selling at $387,000.Championship teams at Pilgrim High School
Greenwood Elementary is centrally located, educating around 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and it receives a B-minus rating from Niche. Winman Junior High has over 700 students in grades 6-8. Despite the jump in student population, the school maintains an 11-1 student-teacher ratio, earning a C-plus overall from Niche. Pilgrim High School, with over 1,000 students, also has an 11-1 student-teacher ratio but earns a B-minus rating. The school's athletic department has a history of winning division championships, such as the girls' track and boys' ice hockey teams.Spending the day at Warwick City Park
For nature close to home, Gorton Pond is a 58-acre lake with a fishing dock. The dock is on the smaller side, so residents who use this access point bring non-motorized boats, such as kayaks or paddleboards. Locals also note that the pond has a surprising amount of wildlife, especially ducks and geese. About 3 miles to the east, Warwick City Park offers two habitats in one: the forest and the beach. The wooded area has a looped trail for hiking, which residents use for their daily stroll. There's also a small beachfront at Warwick City Park. Locals often experience rocks and seaweed strewn about in the sand, but this doesn't stop visitors from returning.Shopping and dining near Greenwood
Greenwood Inn is the first choice for dining nearby. Locally owned and operated since 1984, the neighborhood favorite serves classic American and Italian fare. "It's very well known by people here, and I also love it," Alvarez says. Locals often swing by to catch up over happy hour drinks or order their favorite comfort food. Post Road has more shopping and dining options, including breweries like the Proclamation Ale Company. For groceries, those in the area drop by Dan's Convenience or head up north to Stop & Shop. Residents can also spend the day at the Warwick Mall, the biggest shopping center in the area, which has everything from retail giants like Target to Jordan's Furniture.Award-winning plays at the Gamm Theate
The Warwick Center for the Arts, founded in 1974, is just under a 2-mile drive from the neighborhood. It features a rotating selection of work by local artists. Residents also use the center as an event venue, renting the space out for weddings and other special occasions. North of Greenwood is the Gamm Theatre. Its plays have received several Elliot Norton Awards from the Boston Theater Critics Association.Travel by bus, train or plane
There are several options for getting around: the train, interstates 295 and 95 and the bus system. The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority runs the area's bus lines, and the MBTA operates trains that run through Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Greenwood is also right next to the Rhode Island TF Green International Airport, about a 3-mile drive away. Despite the closeness of the airport, residents haven't reported noise as an issue.
