Barnaby Woods
Stately single-family homes with lush landscaping
Barnaby Woods has large, stately single-family homes, primarily with colonial architectural styles. Brick is the most common siding; most have gable roofs, some with dormer windows. Wraparound front porches are available on some properties, and some homes have touches of Tudor influence. Front yards are well-manicured, with meticulously landscaped bushes and trees greeting the guests of many properties. Homes here have anywhere between three and seven bedrooms, and prices tend to fall between $1 and $2 million, with a median price of about $1,665,000. Barnaby Woods has a 96-percent ownership rate, making it a place to live, not simply to stay.Dining in Chevy Chase and shopping in Friendship Heights

Residents can also get groceries in the area at spots like Magruder’s and Safeway. A bit further west, Friendship Heights has a variety of shopping malls that provide residents access to big-box stores and designer retailers.

The area also has several private schools, including St. John’s College High School, which received an A-plus. “St. John’s is known for its athletic programs, so a lot of students who are interested in that will go there,” says lifelong area resident Audrey Dahlkemper.Hiking in Rock Creek Park
Barnaby Woods has a small neighborhood park called Pinehurst Parkway Park, a mostly wooded area with a basketball court and trails, but “The main thing to do in Barnaby Woods is hike in Rock Creek,” Dahlkemper says. “There’s a ton of walking and biking trails along a little stream.” A nearly 2,000-acre national park in the heart of a city, Rock Creek Park is an extremely rare amenity, offering residents over 32 miles of hiking, historic sites and Ranger-led activities, and its greenery seeps into Barnaby Woods, giving the neighborhood its cozy forested feel.
