Navy Yard

Retail and recreation along the Anacostia River
Despite being in the middle of the city, residents can enjoy green spaces year-round at The Yards Park. An innovative take on an urban beach, The Yards offers grassy plots, fountains and splash pads for kids to play in during the warm summer months. The Yards has a boardwalk and bridge that provides views of the churning Anacostia River. Residents can have their grocery needs met at the local Harris Teeter or Whole Foods Market. Explore Navy Yard’s extensive dining sector along Tingey Street Southeast, hosting well-known brands like Nando’s or Potbelly or reservation-only Middle Eastern cuisine at Albi. Closer to Nationals Park is All Purpose Riverfront, a fast-casual spot known for its pizzas and drink selection. Residents can grab some tacos at Las Placitas or sip and socialize at The Brig’s open-air biergarten. For more outdoor activity, the nearby Anacostia Riverwalk Trail provides over 10 miles of trails and scenic views on both sides of the river. This route is 10 feet wide and designed to be multi-use to accommodate cyclists, runners, skaters and walkers. The Riverwalk has bike racks, interactive maps and benches along the way.
Catch a Nats game or Petalpalooza at The Yards
Residents of the Navy Yard will have no shortage of things to do. Nationals Park, home to the Washington Nationals baseball team, draws big crowds. With the capacity to seat over 41,000 people, this stadium hosts games, concerts and events throughout the year. Less than a mile west of Navy Yard is the brand-new Audi Field, a stadium that hosts pro soccer games with D.C. United and the Washington Spirit, and more recently, pro football games for the UFL’s DC Defenders. Padgett mentions, "People flock to Petalpalooza in Navy Yard when the cherry blossoms bloom.” The Yards Park hosts Petalpalooza, a spring festival centered around the blooming of DC’s famous cherry blossom trees. Festival goers can get food and drinks from vendors and cherry blossom-themed merch. One of Nationals Park’s biggest annual events is Enchant @ Nats Park. Enchant hosts holiday-themed light shows, ice skating, and a holiday village with vendors so residents can buy a hot chocolate and warm up on D.C.’s frosty December evenings.

Washington Navy Yard gives the neighborhood its name
As the name implies, the Washington Navy Yard is home to 16,000 employees and occupies 2.2 million square feet of this neighborhood. The base is the oldest naval facility in the country since it was established in 1799. Explore naval history and heritage at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy or the National Naval Aviation Museum, or visit one of the Navy Yards’ many attractions, like the Navy Yard Railroad Gun. This massive piece of artillery is the last of five built by the U.S. and was developed during World War I.
