North End District offers residential charm near downtown
Bordering downtown Waterbury, the city’s North End District is a heavily residential neighborhood that offers easy access to urban conveniences. The area is also notable for its relative affordability compared to the greater New Haven metropolitan area and the state; the median sale price of $244,000 here is significantly lower than that of the surrounding areas and the state as a whole. Outdoor parks and amenities throughout the neighborhood help stoke a tight-knit sense of community: “Of all the dozen or so neighborhoods in the city, nearly all of them have a dedicated community club or recreation center for residents,” says Lana Ogrodnik, a local Realtor with Showcase Realty, Inc., who has sold real estate in this area for multiple decades. “There are a fair number of employers in town, but we also have a lot of commuters going to and from New York because they have access to the metro station,” she adds, referring to the Waterbury Metro-North Train Station in the downtown area. The North End District has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 6 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4.
