Downtown and restaurants within a 1 mile radius of Lorraine Terrace
Centrally located in Waukegan, Lorraine Terrace has a quiet, suburban vibe rather than the bustling urban pace of life its location suggests. The Waukegan River runs through nearby Yeoman Park, putting nature and greenery a walk away for most residents. But, with downtown to the east and grocery stores and restaurants to its west, Lorraine Terrace is within about a mile of many conveniences and amenities. “We’re too big to be a small town, but we’re small enough to not feel too much like Chicago,” says Niya Simone, a public relations specialist with the City of Waukegan. “The prices are still small town over big city.”

People also walk the shoreline, looking out at the two lighthouses flanking the beach—one red and one green. “It has one of the only dunes in the area, and it’s really great for birding,” Simone says. “If you look at the birding app on the map of the U.S., we have the biggest red dot. We have the most diverse population at these dunes. The birding chapter here is super active.”
