Dual credit courses through Waukegan High School
Lyon Magnet School is on the other side of Lewis Avenue, within walking distance of Norshore Park homes and serving kindergarten through fifth grade. It receives a C-minus from Niche. C-rated John R. Lewis Middle School sits on the northern side of the community, also within walking distance. Older students can attend C-minus-ranked Waukegan High School, which offers dual credit courses through College of Lake County. The school splits its student body across two campuses, with freshmen and sophomores attending the Brookside campus and junior and seniors heading to the Washington campus.

Downtown's annual car show and monthly art shows
Once a month, downtown Waukegan hosts ArtWauk on Saturday evenings, with different highlighted art exhibits and musicians each month. Every summer, Scoop the Loop draws people from across the city to downtown. “It’s a classic car show. It started off in the 50s. Everyone would drive around the block in their cool cars,” says Niya Simone, a public relations specialist with the City of Waukegan. “People have maintained it every year since.”
