Living along the country club in The Links at Midlane
On the outskirts of Waukegan, the sprawling golf course at Midlane Country Club is dotted with homes in the Links at Midlane community, a quiet area away from the hub of Waukegan. “It feels less urban, and it’s a little bit more remote,” says broker Juliet Towne with Coldwell Banker. “You get the quietness of the location yet it’s convenient to everything Waukegan and Gurnee have.” The course is open to anyone, not just residents, and the ungated community features a collection of homeowners associations and subdivisions with different home styles. CAP Index also gives the neighborhood a 2 out of 10 for overall crime, lower than the national average.
Golfing at the country club and neighborhood pocket parks
Midlane Country Club’s golf course spans 350 acres through the neighborhood and hosts tournaments like the Illinois Open and a U.S. Open qualifier. “It’s a public course, so you don’t get a membership to the course if you live there,” Towne says. Pocket parks like Friendship Park and Hilltop Park also sit mixed with the homes along residential streets. Country Lane Park’s blue and lime-green playground has separate equipment for different age groups, plus a basketball court and a baseball diamond.

Diverse housing styles and types along the golf course
“It’s a very mixed community as far as houses go,” Towne says. “You have townhouses and single-family homes that are more villa-like, and then bigger single-family homes.” Among the subdivisions, Country Lane’s tree-lined streets feature Victorian Craftsman homes built in the late 1990s with small lawns and gardens encircling mailboxes. Meanwhile, split-level homes are more common in Oak Crest. Cambridge at Midlane offers larger brick New Traditionals, and The Links at Midlane subdivision includes townhomes and ranch-style homes with personal touches like flowerboxes and statues on front porches. Townhomes and ranch-style homes throughout the community sell between $175,000 and $350,000, while single-family homes range from $300,000 to $460,000.
