Welcome to colorful, close-knit Harwood! A small, energetic neighborhood in north Baltimore, this community has grown tremendously over the past decade. “Ten years ago, Harwood was mostly vacant,” explains Melvin Knight, a lifetime resident of Baltimore and Realtor with Coldwell Banker. “Today, it’s a nice affordable, stable neighborhood.” Featuring mosaics and murals adorning this area’s homes and streets, plus a strong community association which hosts monthly meetings and events like neighborhood clean-ups, barbeques, and a community garden, it’s clear that residents of Harwood care about their homes and each other.

Housing options in Harwood consist solely of row houses. Prospective buyers can choose from two-storied homes, ranging in architectural styles from simple red-brick and stone facades to bowed exteriors complete with bay windows and large roofed front porches. Harwood features “A lot of early 19th-century architecture, and the houses are the right size, medium, three bedrooms. Not too big, not too small, with high ceilings and some even have finished basements,” adds Knight. The average sales price here is $200,000 with price points varying depending on the age, size and condition of the property.

While residents of Harwood may not have front and back yards, they do have urban conveniences, like walkability. Located only a mile from the Johns Hopkins University, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the many cafes, boutiques, and eateries of the greater Charles Village, Remington and Waverly areas, residents have endless options for entertainment and fun. Heading south in the opposite direction, residents are also only one mile from Penn Station, where they can catch the MARC train heading into D.C. for quick and easy commutes.

Students here attend Baltimore City Public Schools, like Barclay Elementary/Middle and Baltimore City College (a 9 through twelve, high school). Serving over 400 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grades, Barclay Elementary/Middle School also serves as an intensive literacy site and an ESOL site. For middle school-aged students, they also have the opportunity to participate in the city's career and technical education (CTE) program, which offers advanced coursework in each student's selected area of study.

For all of your everyday needs, residents will find mini-marts, casual eateries, and convenience stores located along Greenmount Avenue. Less than a mile away, you’ll also find a Giant Food supermarket and the popular 32nd street Farmer’s Market. Open year-round, every Saturday from 7AM to noon, you’ll find fresh produce, meats, and artisanal goods from over sixty local vendors.

For local gourmet eats, pick up a freshly baked loaf from Motzi Bread, grab a coffee and some literature from the Bird in Hand cafe, and head over to nearby Wyman Park Dell for a relaxing picnic afternoon. Later, plan to meet up with friends at Peabody Heights Brewery for one of their rotating beers on tap. Located on the former site of Terrapin Park (aka the first Orioles baseball Park) the once-popular wooden stadium hosted a variety of baseball leagues from 1914-1944.

And when you need a change of pace, residents of Harwood can head to Downtown Baltimore or the Inner Harbor with ease. Catch an O’s game, visit the aquarium, or simply enjoy the waterfront promenade.

With a great location, lots of walkability and a community that cares, Harwood is ready to welcome you home.
