Dorneyville is a suburban community featuring tree-lined streets, highly ranked schools and lush green spaces anchored by the expansive Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. “It’s a major part of the community and certainly a reason why many people move to the area,” says Joyce Folsom, a Realtor with Re/Max who has over 45 years of experience in real estate. “The kids absolutely love it, and the Parkland School District is a huge draw for parents.” Route 222 bisects Dorneyville and connects to Interstate 78, providing residents with access to the rest of the Lehigh Valley and making it easier to traverse the 60 miles south to Philadelphia. Dorneyville features a mix of single-family homes built around the mid-1900s. Traditional split-level, ranch-style and Colonial Revival homes sit on sidewalk-lined streets shaded by mature trees. Most homes feature red brick facades, attached garages and quarter-acre lots with plenty of room for a patio or garden. Prices range from about $300,000 to $535,000, depending on the size and condition of the home. “Dorneyville is part of the South Whitehall Township, but most homes have Allentown mailing addresses,” says Rob McCann, an Owner and Broker of Assist 2 Sell who has been selling homes in the area for over 25 years. According to the CAP Index, the neighborhood has an overall Crime Score of 3. Dorneyville is centrally located at the intersection of Cedar Crest and Hamilton Boulevards, two major thoroughfares in Lehigh Valley. Hamilton Boulevard, also known as Route 222, bisects the neighborhood and connects to Interstate 78, and residents are about 60 miles north of Philadelphia. The Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority provides local bus service to the community, with several stops along Hamilton Boulevard. For longer trips, the Lehigh Valley International Airport is less than 10 miles east. When it's time to run errands or grab a bite to eat, residents can head to Route 222 – also known as Hamilton Boulevard. The Dorneyville Shopping Center includes an Aldi and a variety of restaurants. Locals can fill up on Hibachi at Gourmet Buffet and Grill or head to Cumin N Eat for authentic Indian dishes. Eat Poke Kai serves Hawaiian specialties in a fast-casual environment, and Ice Cream World features over 100 flavors of homemade ice cream for dessert. Residents in Dorneyville are no more than a mile from the expansive Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, which is open seasonally from May to October. Residents can explore seven roller coasters, countless water slides and Planet Snoopy – a Peanuts-themed collection of rides for children. Further north, Cedar Creek Parkway West covers 156 acres of green space. The park is home to the Lehigh Valley Sports Fields, which include full-sized soccer fields, ballfields, tennis courts and a basketball court. Locals can also explore nature in the wooded wetland area or bring their pups to play off-leash in the dog park. Children attend the Parkland School District, which is ranked the best school district in the Lehigh Valley area by Niche. “A lot of people are drawn to the school district,” McCann says. Kids begin their education at Cetronia Elementary School before moving on to Springhouse Middle School and Parkland High School. All three schools earned an A from Niche. The high school boasts a student-run broadcast production studio offering teens hands-on experience producing news, short films and more. Cedar Crest College is a private liberal arts women’s college just a mile east of Dorneyville. Dorney Park hosts several seasonal events, including the annual Great Pumpkin Fest. Locals can celebrate the season in the park’s Planet Snoopy with a petting zoo, trick-or-treating, live music and a meet and greet with the Peanuts characters. The Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest is just west of Dorneyville. The medical campus includes a Level I trauma center, award-winning cancer institute and the Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.
