Charming cottages and oak trees line the lanes of Biwers Woods, a West Allis community with convenient access to Interstate 41 and downtown Milwaukee. The neighborhood is within a 2-mile drive of shopping centers, local businesses and the largest park in West Allis, with public transit options within a short walk. “The community is centrally located with easy freeway access,” says Jennifer Luna, a local real estate agent with Luna Listings. “You’re just minutes from downtown and are close to popular west Milwaukee recreation areas like the State Fair Park and the Pettit National Ice Center.”

Mid-century cottages and multi-family options

Cape Cods, brick cottages and Colonial Revivals make up the architectural scene in Biwers Woods, and most were built between the 1930s and 1960s, with a few late 20th-century builds throughout. Most homes sit close together on 5,000-square-foot lots with fenced back yards and detached garages. Single-family homes range from $215,000 to $400,000, with prices increasing with square footage. The community is also home to a selection of two-bedroom condos, which can go for $195,000 to $215,000.

Nearby businesses in 108th Street

South 108th Street lies just west of the neighborhood and is lined with nearby shopping centers and restaurants. Pallas Restaurant is a local favorite serving classic Greek dishes and American pub fare, from chicken kabobs to baby back ribs. Danny Lynch’s serves tap beer and specialty cocktails that can be enjoyed alongside a round of pool. A short drive east, Chef Paz Restaurant offers authentic Peruvian cuisine, including seafood, smoked pork and fried yuca. ALDI, Pick ‘n Save and Festival Foods are nearby options for groceries, while thrift stores, car dealerships and other local businesses can be found further south on 108th Street.

College and career readiness at Biwers Woods public schools

Irving Elementary School is within a half-mile walk of most of the neighborhood’s homes and earns a C-plus overall grade from Niche. With a C grade, Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate School serves sixth through eighth-grade students and has over 20 extracurricular offerings, including clubs centered around crocheting, kick ball, drawing and board games. Nathan Hale High School receives a B-minus and offers work-based learning programs where students can earn credit through paid and volunteer positions during internships and apprenticeships. The high school also has 16 career-based course clusters in topics like human services, marketing, health science and architecture.

Driving to downtown Milwaukee

Interstate 41connects with Interstate 94 just north of the neighborhood for a straight-forward 10-mile drive to downtown Milwaukee. The area’s bus routes are operated by Milwaukee County Transit systems, with nearby stops along 108th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

West Allis recreation, from ice skating to annual events

The 280-acre Greenfield Park is around a mile east of Biwers Woods and is the largest public park in West Allis. Walking trails wind through the park’s woods and around its scenic pond, while picnic tables dot the open field space. Greenfield Park is also home to a playground, facilities for baseball and volleyball, an aquatic center and an 18-hole golf course. “The Wisconsin State Fair Park is nearby and is a big draw to the area,” says Luna. “Along with the fair, the park hosts tons of annual events year-round. Locals like being close to the activity.” The Pettit National Ice Center lies just north of the park and is the United States Olympic team training site for figure skating, speed skating and hockey. The center has free skating hours and skating lessons for all ages. The West Allis Athletic Complex is also nearby and hosts local youth league and public-school games on its football field, baseball diamonds and soccer field. Dog owners can take their pups to get some off leash exercise at the West Allis Dog Park.
