President Heights has a residential half and a commercial half
In President Heights, tree-lined suburban streets on the east juxtapose busy shopping centers and main roads on the west. The two halves, separated by a main interstate, create a residential and commercial balance with short drives to nearby schools, parks, shopping and employers. Because of its prime location, demand is high, and houses sell in less than three weeks from listing with a median price of $280,000. "Many residents have lived in the area their whole lives," says West Allis Mayor Dan Devine. "People even buy the houses they and their parents grew up in."
President Heights is half residential and half commercial.

Homes from the middle of the 20th century on tree-lined streets
Built between the 1950s and 1970s, houses in President Heights have Cape Cod, bungalow and ranch-style designs. Narrow driveways lead to detached garages and small backyards where neighbors gather. "People here have a community mindset," Devine says. "That's how the city keeps its small-town feel." The smaller homes are priced from $180,000 to $300,000, while less common bi-levels and split-levels with attached garages reach up to $360,000. Throughout the neighborhood's residential half, tall trees line the patches of grass dividing roads and sidewalks. In spring and summer, some streets are entirely covered by overhead trees, providing shade for those riding their bikes and walking around.

City amenities and Interstate 41 add mobility and shorten commutes
Interstate 41 is the highway intersecting West Allis, and on- and off-ramps are in President Heights. Downtown Milwaukee is 9 miles northeast via interstates 41 and 94, and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 11 miles southeast via interstates 41 and 43. West National Avenue is another busy thoroughfare of the city that passes through the neighborhood. The wide street with bike lanes, bus stops and crosswalks continues to Lake Michigan. Those without cars can rely on the city's amenities to get around. "We've got a very good grid system, it's very walkable, and we have good transit," Devine says. "We have public bikes and, very recently, Lime Scooters. All those things create the micromobility for people to get around to the different amenities." Aurora West Allis Medical Center is West Allis's main hospital and largest employer, just past the neighborhood's eastern boundary.
Highway 100 is the city's main shopping strip
West of Interstate 41 is the main shopping strip of West Allis along South 108th Street. Called Highway 100 by locals, the street has big-box stores, grocers, national chains and local shops. The commercial half of President Heights is home to the local Target, Piggly Wiggly and many car dealerships. One long-standing local restaurant in the neighborhood is Oscar's Frozen Custard. The area also has office buildings, a bank and medical specialist offices. Allis Bike & Fitness is along West National Avenue. The bicycle shop offers tune-ups, accessories and bikes for mountain biking, road biking and BMX.
