Homes sell quickly in Woodlawn Manor compared to the national average

Homes sell very fast in Woodlawn Manor, usually after less than two weeks, compared to the national average of over six weeks. Cape Cods, bungalows and small Colonial Revivals from the first half of the 20th century range in price between $190,000 and $350,000 with a median price of $250,000 – over 150,000 less than the national median. Multi-family homes with up to four units are on large corner lots with prices between $300,000 and $400,000. Across the Historical Society Museum, a brand-new apartment complex called The Revv is under construction that will have nearly 250 units. "There are plenty of new apartments going up, but unfortunately, no condos," says Mandi Miller, Realtor with Re/Max Forward. She says, like many of the apartments in the city, The Revv is likely to house "students, young couples and a lot of medical professionals doing their residency at nearby hospitals."

Interstate 41 is right next door

Interstate 41 provides access to downtown Milwaukee and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, each about 10 miles away. Aurora West Allis Medical Center is a main employer just south of Lincoln Avenue. Buses stop on bordering roads and National Avenue, which cuts through the neighborhood's center. National Avenue is a busy road with heavy traffic that leads west to downtown Milwaukee and Lake Michigan. "There are always improvements for car and pedestrian safety happening in the area," Mike Koszalka, the library director of the West Allis Public Library. "The city's Engineering Department fills potholes and fixes sidewalks; they even have a schedule for repaving entire streets."

Children attend different elementary and high schools depending on which side of Woodlawn Manor they live on: students on the easternmost streets attend Franklin Elementary, while the rest attend Irving Elementary School. Niche grades them C-plus. Both feed into Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate, which receives a C. Central High School is graded C-plus, and Nathan Hale High School gets a B-minus.Lamb of God is a private Lutheran School in the southwestern corner of the neighborhood. It is affiliated with Woodlawn Evangelical Lutheran Church and teaches prekindergarten through eighth grade.

A peek into the past at The West Allis Historical Society Museum

Greenfield Park and McCarty Park, less than 2 miles away, are West Allis' two largest parks and have sports fields, a pond and a public pool. Some smaller green spaces are closer to home, however. Little League of West Allis Fields and Reservoir Park are to the north in Conrad Gardens. In addition to two regulation-size Little League fields, the park has a baseball-themed playground. The West Allis Historical Society Museum shows a glimpse of the area's past, and visitors can check out local artifacts and take a guided tour that includes a log cabin schoolhouse. Honey Creek Park is behind the museum, and Honey Creek Cemetery holds an event around Halloween.

Extensive shopping on Highway 100

South 108th Street, which locals refer to as Highway 100, serves as the city's main shopping corridor. Car dealerships, grocery stores, home improvement centers and a mix of local and chain restaurants are just a few of the main destinations there.
