Lake Township of Oakland County

There’s a certain pride that permeates the air in West Bloomfield. Once a farming community with apple orchards, the township now offers highly rated schools, ample parks and recreation, a variety of home styles and sizes and an engaged community.

“My family moved from Southfield to West Bloomfield in 1995 and have been here ever since,” says Township Supervisor Steven Kaplan. “The quality of the school district, affordable homes and the environmental commitment that West Bloomfield has exerted is what attracted us.”

24 lakes and nearly 600 acres of parks

West Blomfield earned the name Lake Township of Oakland County because it features 24 lakes across more than 1,800 acres. Cass Lake and Pine Lake, both of which have country clubs, are large parts of life in West Bloomfield.

Along with 1,800 acres of water, residents have 600 acres of park space to choose from. “Our parks attract people because of the serene, scenic nature,” says Kaplan. Marsh Bank Park is among the top three parks in the township and offers over 80 acres of recreation. With two large playscapes for the community’s youngest kids, ball fields for competing with neighbors, a nature trail, a fishing pier and a sledding hill for winter fun, this park offers a slew of year-round fun.

Other popular options include Bloomer Park and Drakes Sports Park. The sports park attracts West Bloomfield’s most active residents, offering a skate park, basketball court, baseball fields, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, an exercise trail and more.

Protecting the township's greenspaces is among West Bloomfield’s top initiatives. “We have enacted some of the most progressive environmental commitments to maintain our parks,” says Kaplan. West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve is a prime example of this commitment, offering a scenic, relaxing getaway at the center of town.
