A small suburb under towering trees
A streak of old-growth elms and maples pops up above the rooflines of the Arbor Glen suburb in West Fargo. Originally established on edge of West Fargo’s explosive growth in the early 2000s, where the city's population nearly doubled in a decade, the metro has continued to swell south. That doesn’t mean it’s inconvenient – quite the opposite, as the community is surrounded by some of the top shopping destinations and family-friendly activities that the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo metro offers. With the major thoroughfare of Interstate 94 crossing to the south and the Sanford Medical Center Fargo looming on the horizon, Arbor Glen has evolved from an early West Fargo exurb into a centrally-located suburban oasis.
Limited housing options, with a uniform appearance
Built between 2002 and 2007, the homes of Arbor Glen are a mix of twin and single-family bi-level homes, with common features – vinyl siding, accent shutters, a prominent two- or three-stall garage jutting out towards the street and a fenced-in backyard for privacy. Twin homes range in price from $225,000 to $350,000, while single-family homes sell for between $250,000 and $450,000 – homes with four-stall garages and corner lots fetch a premium. The desirability of modern three- and four-bedroom homes in a central location is seen in the relatively short time properties sit on the market – homes in Arbor Glen sell on average in 22 days, half the national average.

Convenient but car-dependent
Arbor Glen is bike-friendly, with quiet streets and dedicated paths throughout the neighborhood, and walking for recreation is common in the warm weather. MATBUS Route 24 also runs through the area, with stops on the southern end of the community. However, most residents are car-dependent for work and errands. There is easy access to Interstate 94 just south of the neighborhood, which connects with Interstate 29 roughly 2 miles east. This helps Arbor Glen hold true to the Fargo ideal of ‘15 minutes to anywhere’ that residents love to stress. “It’s not like we’re in a huge, difficult-to-navigate metro,” says Mary Schimke, Realtor with Archer Real Estate Services, “If you have to sit through the light change two times at a stop light, that’s considered bad.” Downtown Fargo, roughly 6 miles away, is a 15-minute drive most of the time; Hector International Airport, just under 7 miles away, is also a 15-minute drive. Sanford Medical Center Fargo, one of the largest employers in the Fargo area and the closest for 24-hour emergency care, is only 2 miles away and generally a drive of five minutes.

An enticing, inclusive activity center
Arbor Woods Park is in the center of the neighborhood, a pocket park with a small green space and a playground. Most residents will head up to Maplewood Park and Activity Center, home to an inclusive playground built with children of all abilities in mind. It features a rubber surface, along with various structures and accessible bathrooms. The deck hockey rink also serves as pickleball courts in the summers and is flooded with water for ice skating and pick-up ice hockey in the winters. An obstacle course challenges teens and adults, while the Activity Center can be rented for birthdays, graduation parties, family events and more.

West Fargo Events organizes activities throughout the year
West Fargo has worked hard to develop itself apart from Fargo in its arts and events, with the West Fargo Events team headed by Mike Amundson holding over 200 events annually. These range from weekly movies and yoga on the lawn at the Essentia Health Plaza at The Lights, to concerts and annual events. “KidChella is a youth music festival on the first Saturday in August every year,” says Amundson, highlighting one of the big family-focused events. Pro bull riding, wrestling, concerts and more are centered at The Lights, while closer to the heart of West Fargo, the Red River Valley Fair is one of the largest in the region, with ten days of rides, music, fair food and more.
