Suburban enclave in the heart of West Fargo
Located right in the heart of West Fargo, Francis supports a family-friendly community with great access to the area's local shops, restaurants and public resources, from the West Fargo Public Library to Veterans Memorial Pool. Organizations like West Fargo Events also keep things in Francis social and active by hosting music festivals at The Lights and organizing community theater. "We do theater at the MIA/POW Plaza and other venues in town. It's really great to see people all getting out and getting together while they watch," says Mike Amundson, the Executive Director of West Fargo Events. Despite the buzzy atmosphere of main areas in town like Sheyenne Street, Francis is also known for the comfortable, residential vibe that folks will find just a few blocks away from popular spots like The Noble Hare or Sandy's Donuts. "Like a lot of West Fargo, there seem to be a lot of new businesses coming to Francis as they continue to renovate and revitalize," says Brady Schneeberger, a local Realtor with EXP. Less than 6 miles west of downtown Fargo, Francis residents enjoy having a small-town community and local amenities they can access right beyond their front doors, with only more being expected to come in the near future.
Francis starter homes with vintage charm
Just blocks away from commercial properties along Sheyenne Street, the residential parts of Francis are home to a diverse mix of bungalows, cottages, Cape Cods and ranch homes that all share a similar vintage feel from their construction in the 1930s through '60s. "It's an older neighborhood and homes tend to have a smaller footprint, but that also presents a great opportunity for first-time homebuyers or those looking to fix something up," says Schneeberger. Mostly one story and less than 3,000 square feet in space, Francis' unique homes are made to keep their residents comfortable, whether tucked under a blanket of snow in the winter or relaxing outdoors on front porches during the summer. Walking along the neighborhood's long, gridded streets and narrow sidewalks, folks will find that most homes also sport detached carports, wide driveways and tidily-kept backyards, with enough room for a small garden or pool. Though the average sales price is currently just above $210,000 dollars, "This will probably continue to rise in the future as West Fargo continues to grow," says Schneeberger. Two-bedroom cottages with under 1,000 square feet can sell from $120,000 to $200,000 dollars, while larger bungalows and other properties with 3,000 square feet of space and up to five bedrooms can sell anywhere from $250,000 to $350,000 dollars.

A highlight of the Francis neighborhood is how easy it is to walk to local shops along Sheyenne Street. One well-known spot is Sandy's Donuts. Located right on Main and Sheyenne, this locally owned shop has become a veritable institution of the Fargo area. Patrons appreciate Sandy's for their diverse flavor selection, customizable designs and quality coffee. Another area staple is Deaner's Diner, which serves up classic American fare like omelets, sandwiches and burgers with homemade style and desserts like cherry and custard cream pies. Heading outdoors at Veterans Memorial Pool
While Francis is mostly known for its access to shopping, there are still several nearby spots where locals enjoy getting outside. Walking along Sheyenne Street, shoppers may be inclined to stop for a seat at POW/MIA Plaza, which was recently built and dedicated to service members. A sign of West Fargo's dedication to growth and bringing its community together, the park is often the site of live music or community events like Stage West. Lights and a tree are put up for the winter season while decorations come out during Halloween. Another great resource for the area is Veterans Memorial Pool. Open to the public, the pool is a popular spot for families to ride water slides or practice swimming in the deep end while young kids play in the splash zone. Just outside the pool, Tintes Park offers a playground for families to keep the fun going, as well as open green space to relax in. When feeling sporty, residents can also play tennis or a pick-up game of field hockey at Tintes Park.
In the summertime the Veterans Memorial Pool is one of the best places to spend the day.

West Fargo Events and The Lights
One community resource that brings together residents and provides an entertaining activity for folks to join in on together is The Lights. Just a few miles south of Francis along Sheyenne Street, The Lights is a popular sports and event venue where residents often gather to watch concerts and hockey. On the first Saturday in August every year, Kid-Chella takes the stage. The event features kid-friendly music from Koo Koo as well as activities like face painting and crafts. In addition to events like Kid-Chella, West Fargo Events also owns a producing arm of community theatre called Stage West. "We do musicals and plays – some of it is education for kids like camps, others are murder mystery theatres, and more," says Amundson.

When traveling out of state, Hector International Airport is just over 6 miles from Francis, right above downtown.
