Relatively affordable Fargo homes with townhouse options
Turning away from the busy shops and industry along Main Avenue, Pinewood's residents come home to grassy front yards and residential streets shaded by leafy maples and willow oaks. Homes in this neighborhood were built from as early as the 1920s well into the 2000s. A handful of wood-sided cottages and ramblers are found in the western half of Pinewood, showcasing West Fargo's early days; while more recent construction features split-levels or traditional architectural designs. Many also include attached garages and rear patios that make it easy for residents to spend time outside. "Young families and first-time homebuyers in particular tend to appreciate the neighborhood for its affordability," says Sweere, explaining that older, two-bedroom properties can sell for as low as $150,000, while recently built options can sell for as high as $310,000 dollars. For those looking for something smaller, the community also features a selection of single-story townhouses that sell from about $200,000 to $275,000.Walk to Riverside Park and other nearby options
When it comes to getting outdoors, folks in Pinewood can take a short stroll over to Riverside Park, which sits at the middle of the neighborhood. Kids can play together on the playground and swings, while open greenspace and shady trees make it a popular spot for walking the dog. For more athletic options and access to the Sheyenne River, folks can also visit Elmwood Park. Anglers can cast their lines out for catfish in the river, while groups of friends get together for pickup games on the baseball diamond, basketball court and sand volleyball area. When it's too cold to go outside, the West Fargo Fitness Center is a locally owned gym located just across Main Avenue. For a monthly fee, members can lift weights, run on the treadmill or use their aerobic facilities at any time, day or night.West Fargo public schools close to home
Students in Pinewood can start school nearby at South Elementary, which is located just half a mile down First Street and earns a B-rating on Niche. Sixth graders move on to Cheney Middle and eventually West Fargo High, both of which earn B-ratings on Niche. West Fargo offers its students a variety of athletic activities, from football and hockey to baseball or soccer. In terms of academics, West Fargo is known for its relatively low student-to-teacher ratio of 13:1 and offers a full suite of AP courses.Family fun at Bonanazaville USA
For a fun family outing that's also educational, Bonanazaville USA is a living history museum and event space dedicated to preserving the small-town heritage of Fargo and surrounding regions. "With so many families in the area, we get tons of kids coming in. They tend to like things you can walk into or see and explore with your own eyes," says Director Jansen. In addition to 36 different historic buildings that have been relocated to the site, the museum holds various antique collections like trains, cars, tractors and planes. During holidays and other special events, Bonanazaville USA also offers free admission, food vendors and activities for kids like horse-drawn wagons and the kiddy tractor pull.Getting around the greater Pinewood area
With a convenient location right along Main Avenue, residents of Pinewood are just 5 miles, or about 15 minutes, from Downtown Fargo. Although commutes are short and traffic tends to be light in the area, long, snowy winters can make it a bit harder to get out of the house in the morning. For out-of-state travel, Hector International Airport is just a few miles north of downtown, while, in the case of a medical emergency, Sanford Medical Center can be found roughly 4 miles south of the neighborhood.West Fargo favorites on Sheyenne Street
In terms of shopping and dining, Pinewood has plenty of options nearby. Folks can shop for daily conveniences at the neighborhood's Family Dollar, or make the quick drive to big box stores like Walmart, Menards or Natural Grocers all of which line 13th Avenue. For a bite to eat, Sheyenne Street is also located less than half a mile from Pinewood. "As West Fargo grows and comes into its own, Sheyenne Street has really filled up with some nice little restaurants," says Beth Jansen, Executive Director at Bonanzaville USA. Residents can start the day with a made-to-order drink and freshly-baked pastry from Thunder Coffee, or head over to Deaner's Diner for a classic breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. In the evenings, friends can gather over pulled pork sandwiches and burgers at the Silver Dollar Bar & Flying Pig Grill, or head over to Junkyard Brewing for a drink on their rooftop patio.
