Bustling West Hollywood is a hot spot of activity in LA County
West Hollywood is a lively city in Los Angeles County, known for its nightlife, dining scene and long list of events. Nicknamed WeHo, the area draws homebuyers who want to be close to the action without giving up access to parks, trails and highly rated schools. You have a mix of single-family homes and condos close enough to walk to restaurants and experiences, like comedy clubs and music venues, all the while living a short drive from downtown Hollywood and Los Angeles.

What kind of options homebuyers and renters have in West Hollywood
You’ll mostly find single-family homes and condos in West Hollywood. Styles range from small condo units to sleek contemporary homes with private driveways. Some of the most expensive options are penthouse condos with sweeping views of Hollywood and LA. The median sale price for West Hollywood is around $1.2 million. “West Hollywood has a lot of bungalows and Craftsman[s], and then a lot of low-rise, low-density, mom and pop type apartment buildings,” says Dario Svidler, Partners CRE's executive vice president. “This area is going to be a very high percentage of renters, probably 70 to 80%, which is something homebuyers usually keep in mind.”

Residents are close to bars, popular restaurants and luxury shops
Living in West Hollywood means being surrounded by restaurants and bars. "It's one of the biggest party spots in LA," says Realtor Matthew Tilley, better known as the British Bloke from his LA real estate guide on YouTube. "The people living in the condos can step out right into it all — the juice bar, the yoga and all the nightlife." Among all the options, you might stop by:
Gracias Madre, a vegan restaurant that serves Mexican dishes and desserts for lunch and dinner
Rainbow Bar and Grill, a landmark on the Sunset Strip that opened in the 1970s and has been a hangout spot for rock and roll artists
Laurel Hardware, a speakeasy-style restaurant in a converted hardware store with seasonal menus
Shopping in West Hollywood is almost as popular as dining out. Sunset Plaza has high-end boutiques and a Trader Joe’s grocery store, while the West Hollywood Design District is full of design studios, luxury fashion designers and busy cafes.

WeHo stays busy with annual and recurring events
From annual celebrations to weekly happenings, West Hollywood is a destination for events. "There is so much to do here,” Svidler says. “You've got art, nightlife, comedy, great restaurants.” The occasions that draw the biggest crowds are:
WeHo Pride, a celebration that usually starts in May and extends through June, with things like a parade down Santa Monica Boulevard, an arts festival and live performances
West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, when thousands of people dress up and join the free street party along Santa Monica Boulevard
Concerts, especially at venues on Sunset Boulevard like The Roxy Theatre, where famous bands and performers have played
Helen Albert Certified Farmers Market, one of the oldest farmers markets that fills Plummer Park with vendors every Monday
The Comedy Store in West Hollywood is a launching pad for stand-up comedians.

The annual WeHo Pride Parade is always a busy event.

Getting around the LA area by car, bus and subway
West Hollywood is one of the most walkable cities in California, because of its proximity to The Comedy Store or bars along Santa Monica Boulevard. The city also has bike lanes on Santa Monica Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. "One of the biggest draws of West Hollywood is how centrally located it is for commuting anywhere in LA," Tilley says. Driving down Santa Monica takes you to downtown Hollywood, and the road connects to the Hollywood Freeway on the way to downtown LA. People who prefer public transportation can catch a Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus to nearby subway stations like the Wilshire/La Brea stop on the Metro D Line.
Rosewood STEM Magnet Urban Planning and Urban Design is one of the options in WeHo.
Living close to public and private schools
The city is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and there are options in the neighborhood like West Hollywood Elementary School, which gets an A-minus from Niche. Residents live close to multiple private and charter options, from the currently unrated West Hollywood College Preparatory School to the A-rated Larchmont Charter School.
Exploring parks close to home and nearby hiking trails
There are parks across the community, but two stand out as the most popular. Plummer Park is the first, with lighted tennis and pickleball courts, basketball courts, a playground and shaded picnic areas beneath towering trees. West Hollywood Park, though, is the biggest and is packed with things to do. Here, you might:
Let your pup play in one of the two enclosed dog parks
Stroll along the paved walking path to the West Hollywood Library
Play a round on the tennis courts and cool off at the aquatic center
If you like more of an adventure, Runyon Canyon Park is nearby with miles of hiking trails that even lead to the Hollywood Sign.
Locals pick up fresh fruits and veggies at the Helen Albert Farmers Market in West Hollywood.
Many residents enjoy sunbathing on the lawn in Plummer Park
