Dreher Park
Suburban Neighborhood in West Palm Beach, Florida
Palm Beach County 33405, 33406
Established homes with entrenched character
Many of the houses across this neighborhood date back to the mid-20th century, mostly bungalows and ranch-style options. But some classic Spanish-style homes from the 1920s are dotted around the area, too. The inventory also includes cottages that were once used as vacation homes but have since been refined for full-time use, D’Arinzo says. Dreher Park’s houses are situated snugly on blocks lined with sidewalks and palm and oak trees. Still, many lots here afford at least a bit of lawn room and off-street parking, usually between one-tenth and one-fifth of an acre. Price tags often range from the $300,000s to the $500,000s, and listings tend to sell rapidly. “It is a quick market,” says D’Arinzo, who has been in real estate for more than 30 years. “Anything east. It’s Florida, the closer to the water the better. People want to be near the beach.”Palm District Schools like Palmetto Elementary offer special programming
Kids in Dreher Park are covered by The School District of Palm Beach County, which has a B-plus overall grade on Niche. Many here are zoned for Palmetto Elementary, a C-plus-rated school that offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and a Spanish dual-language program are options at the B-minus-rated Conniston Community Middle. The B-minus-rated Forest Hill Community High has a Spanish dual-language program, too, plus others in topics like medical sciences, criminal justice and culinary arts.Route 1 is well-regarded for restaurants
Dreher Park is largely residential outside of the parks, but it’s just a few streets west of U.S. Route 1, also called South Dixie Highway. Route 1 is a bustling strip full of restaurants and shops, within walking distance for some in Dreher Park. Havana is one of the hotspots that’s particularly close, a perennial community choice award winner from The Palm Beach Post. “Havana is a well-known Cuban food dining spot that features a 24-hour window where locals can grab coffee and sandwiches,” says Dana Koch, a local realtor with The Corcoran Group who has more than 20 years of real estate experience. Don Ramon Restaurante Cubano down the road is “very good,” too, D’Arinzo says, including for its daily lunch specials. Patrons can enjoy live piano music while dining at Don Ramon as well. Locals looking for groceries and other essentials can stop by the Winn-Dixie in the Shoppes At Palm Coast Plaza or hop off Route 1 and over to the Publix Super Market at Southdale Shopping Center on Southern Boulevard. Dreher Park’s crime score is a smidge higher than the national average, according to the national average.Holiday events and science centers at Palm Beach Zoo
Residents can find a number of local events at the Palm Beach Zoo: “During Christmastime, the zoo hosts a special event called Zoo Lights,” Melear says. Each evening of this annual holiday celebration features a DJ dance party and visits with Santa Claus, along with over a million lights that illuminate the zoo’s park and botanical gardens. Another feature of the Palm Beach Zoo is the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, which features a planetarium and interactive exhibits, making it a popular place for students and curious minds interested in the marine sciences. In 2020, the center opened its Cox Amphitheater, which is now used to host live science shows and concerts.Use Southern Boulevard to slide over to Palm Beach
This area runs up against part of Southern Boulevard, a stretch that can quickly carry drivers over the Bingham Island Bridge and to the barrier island of Palm Beach. Commuters also enjoy easy access to Interstate 95 for trips up and down the coast, and Route 1 is a connection to Downtown West Palm Beach, roughly 4 miles north. Dreher Park has multiple stops in the area's Palm Tran bus system, too.Dreher Park’s list of amenities is long
Named after Paul Dreher, West Palm Beach’s first director of parks and recreation, Dreher Park is the neighborhood’s namesake feature. The park stretches some 120 acres by Interstate 95, and features everything from an 18-hole disc golf course to fishing piers by the space’s built-in lakes. There’s a dog park for four-legged friends, too. Palm Beach Zoo is actually a 23-acre sliver of Dreher Park, and features more than 500 animals. It’s common for locals to nab annual passes to the zoo. “The zoo is a lot of fun,” says Michael Melear, a local realtor with Douglas Elliman who has more than a dozen years of experience in real estate. “There’s a splash pad for kids and a small restaurant called the Tropics Café, as well as a large variety of animals like tigers, panthers, monkeys, bears, etc.”Palmetto Park is another popular pick here, to take the kids to the playground or to simply relax under the towering shade trees. Golfers in the area can quickly enjoy The Park West Palm, on the neighborhood’s southern end. Opened in 2023, The Park is a public course with high-end appeal that city residents can take advantage of at a discount. And a beach day is never far away, either — the sand of Municipal Beach in Palm Beach is just about a 5-mile trip from Dreher Park.
