Quiet suburban living in Willoughby
There isn't a whole lot going on around Willoughby, and folks like it that way. The neighborhood's quiet, sidewalk-lined streets are home to several subdivisions, most gated. Manmade lakes and ponds dapple its map, as do towering palm, oak and pine trees. “It’s your average suburb,” says Joel Sanchez, a local Realtor with Fidelity Real Estate Advisors. “It’s quiet, too. You see a lot of families moving there.” The community is surrounded by main thoroughfares, Lantana Road, Military Trail and Hypoluxo Road, putting everyday conveniences within a moment’s drive. "It's convenient for commuting, too," says David Sanders, a local Realtor with Compass Florida Realty LLC. "It's 5 minutes from Interstate 95 and 10 minutes from Florida's Turnpike." Just south of Greenacres, Willoughby offers quiet and central suburban living.
Homes in Willoughby feature charming architecture and spacious yards.
First, there was Blue Pine Estates
The first wave of Willoughby’s development began around 1980 with the construction of Blue Pine Estates’ Minimal Traditional ranch-style homes. These properties and other 1980s-built houses are on the neighborhood’s east side in ungated communities. They have two to four bedrooms and single-car garages. Development of Willoughby’s west side didn’t start until 2000 when the gated Willoughby Farms subdivision ushered in larger homes and townhouses on smaller lots. These newer single and multifamily properties display the earthy elegance of Spanish eclectic architecture. Other gated communities followed suit, including Rivermill, Cocoplum and Lantern Key. Each Willoughby community is managed by an HOA or POA. Prices for condos and townhouses range from $257,000 to the low $400,000s, while single-family properties list between $380,000 and $671,000.

In-house programs at Park Vista Community High
Willoughby is located at the intersection of several Palm Beach County schools’ attendance zones. Students living on the far north side of the neighborhood begin their studies at Diamond View Elementary, while those on the east and west sides attend Hidden Oaks K-8. Both schools have B-minus ratings on Niche. Other schools attended by Willoughby students include Christa McAuliffe Middle, rated A-minus, and Park Vista Community High, rated A and ranked No. 7 on Niche’s list of Palm Beach County’s best high schools. This high school offers in-house programs that prepare students for higher education and careers in their areas of interest. Program focuses include television and film production technology, automotive collision repair and refinishing, and automotive service technology.

Buttonwood Park
Buttonwood Park is a 17-acre green space on Willoughby’s north side. “That park is always busy,” Sanchez says. “People go there to play soccer, basketball and all that jazz.” Button Park is the area’s main recreation hub since it has three full basketball courts, three athletic fields and two sand volleyball courts. It also has a playground where local kids slide, swing and play. Adventure Mini Golf is another popular spot for family-friendly fun. Its two professional mini golf courses wind around tropical plants and glittering waterfalls.

South Military Trail
Running errands, grabbing take-out or snagging a morning coffee doesn’t take residents more than a few minutes from home. South Military Trail, located along Willoughby’s east side, connects folks to Walmart, Publix and other convenient businesses. Rorabeck's Plants & Produce is also off South Military Trail. This local, family-owned business has been in the community for over 30 years. Their popular produce market, plant nursery and café are open seven days a week.
Wedged between three major roads, Willoughby is quite convenient for commuters.
Hypoluxo Road to Interstate 95
Wedged between three major roads, Willoughby is quite convenient for commuters. Lantana Road and Hypoluxo Road offer direct routes to Lantana and Interstate 95, which are both less than 5 miles east. Via I-95, it's less than a 15-mile drive from Willoughby to Palm Beach International Airport and downtown West Palm Beach.
