Bald Hill is the place to be if you want quick access to entertainment and shopping destinations. This is not your typical suburb laid out like a grid: instead, winding residential roads are interspersed with commercial corridors. You’re a bit outside T.F. Green International Airport, so this is a step removed from Warwick City Center, but the atmosphere is still bustling. Call it suburban living with gusto.

Stefanie Carr, a Realtor with Lila Delman Compass, points out that neighborhoods like Bald Hill appeal to homebuyers precisely because of this interesting blend of amenities. “Warwick has a lot of residential stretches, but you’ll also see a lot of industrial and commercial development here, too. Having Interstate 95 run through here is super convenient.”

Still, despite Bald Hill’s bustling surroundings, the residential stretches themselves are quintessentially quiet. You’ll see midcentury ranches, Cape Cods and split-level homes on streets closed to through traffic. Large shade trees stand on lots with fenced backyards, and driveways lead to attached garages. Some have been renovated to include modern finishes and fixtures in key areas like the floors, bathrooms and kitchens. Prices are in the low $300,000s to low $400,000s.

Two schools in the local pipeline sit close to each other on the south side —plus they’re near these residential stretches— making it a breeze to integrate the daily school routine. Scott Elementary enrolls nearly 250 students in grades K-5. With a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1, it received a B-plus from Niche in the teachers category. Winman Junior High is certainly a step up in terms of student population: over 700 are enrolled in grades 6-8. But there’s a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1, helping the school to receive a B-plus in the teachers category. West Warwick High enrolls over 1,000 students in grades 9-12. It scores well across a range of categories, with Niche giving it a B in the clubs and activities category as well as a B overall. The girls’ outdoor track team won state championships in 2023, and in 2022 the performing arts club won a national contest held by the Disney Theatrical Group.

One of the best ways to run errands here is to hop on the neighborhood’s namesake road, also known as Route 2. You’ll find everything from Trader Joe’s to Target, plus fun retail destinations like Barnes & Noble. And even though this strip is lined with fast casual chains, there’s still a local touch to the eateries here: Brewed Awakenings has you covered with coffee and croissants in a cozy lounge setting, while Tree House Tavern will have you knocking back craft beer and chicken wings in a rustic 1860s farmhouse. For weekend diversions, get yourself to Launch Trampoline Park, where everyone can live out their fantasy of bouncing up to the perfect slam dunk.

There’s also plenty of opportunity to play outside, too. Impossible Dream is a colorful playground with make-believe castles and a mini-golf course. Along the west end you can pick up the Washington Secondary Bike Path, which stretches 19 miles from Cranston to western Coventry. The path follows a former railroad line, taking you past forested areas, rivers and historic structures like the Summit General Store, one of the oldest general stores in Rhode Island. Interstate 95 runs along the east end if you want to get back in your car and explore the wider region.

Bald Hill is the kind of suburb that has something to do at every turn.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
