Historic mill town of Centreville

A riverside suburban enclave with several nearby amenities, Centreville, located upon the Pawtuxet River, was one of the more productive mill towns in 19th century Rhode Island and one of the first in the state to industrialize. Though manufacturing is no longer prevalent in Centreville, remnants of industrial architecture have been redeveloped for modern community use.

Architectural diversity in Centreville

Centreville is populated with raised ranch-style, split-level and colonial homes. Walking through Centreville reveals narrow residential streets with predominantly straight driveways and attached garages. Most sidewalk infrastructure diverted to main roads and schools like Maisie E. Quinn, a preschool within the neighborhood. Many houses in Centreville are older, with post-World War II builds standing beside renovated 19th-century residences. James Duffer, 5-year Realtor with RISE Real Estate Consultants, says, “Home prices are lower than usual in the area, which is good, when many residents drive to Providence for work.” Single-family homes range from $250,000 to $500,000, varying on lot size and square footage.
