Clator offers housing variety with a vintage feel
Arranged along a small grid of sidewalk-lined streets, Clator homes range in age from the early 1900s to the '70s. Buyers can find American Foursquare and cottage designs with original wooden siding or opt for a more modern ranch, spit-level or traditional home. "Some of the homes here haven't been cared for over the years, but others are very nice and really preserve their vintage feel," says Margaret Molnar, an area resident and Realtor with Fathom Realty. Smaller properties from the early 1900s tend to sell from $70,000 to $150,000, while more modern homes with over 1,500 square feet sell from about $150,000 to $270,000. Rental options are also available due to the neighborhood's in-demand location. Clator has a CAP Index Crime Score of 3 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.Heading outdoors at Oglebay Park
Passing immediately north of Clator, the Wheeling Heritage Trail is an 18-mile paved path that stretches through Wheeling and along the Ohio River. Walkers, bikers and runners explore neighboring areas like Elm Grove and Downtown Wheeling while taking in scenic views of the river. Another recreational option located in the neighborhood is The Howard Long Wellness Center, an exercise facility with an indoor track, weights and an aquatic center with a jacuzzi. The center also offers over 70 weekly exercise classes, ranging from yoga and tai chi to swimming and cycling. The largest park in the area, Oglebay Park, is also just under 4 miles away, with over 1,600 acres of green space. Its main amenities include miles of hiking trails and gardens, a luxury resort and several golf courses, though young visitors may prefer to visit the park's playground, zoo or paddle-boating lake. J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex is southeast of the neighborhood and has six ballfields predominantly used for youth baseball and softball.Students are zoned for Ohio County Schools

A major event during the holidays is Oglebay's Festival of Lights. Open from November to January, this popular drive-through display features over 300 acres of twinkling lights spread across a 6-mile route. "The Festival of Lights is huge for locals and even people from out of town. Tour busses come in from all over, from New York to Canada," Thomas says. Local students going with their families to the event may also be able to show off their handiwork, as many of the displays were constructed in Wheeling Park High's vocational classes.

I honestly think it's the best Italian food in the Ohio Valley," says Chris Thomas, an area resident and Realtor with eXp Realty. Thomas recommends the lamb Osso Bucco, explaining that it's the only place in Wheeling that serves it. Next door, El Zocalo boasts a warm, family-friendly atmosphere and a menu of Mexican classics like tacos, enchiladas and margaritas.
