North Street is a quiet strip of suburban homes and greenery in White Plains, New York, 27 miles from Manhattan. “People move here because the taxes are low, number one, and also because it’s closer to major highways, like the Hutchinson Parkway, and has access to Interstates 684 and 287,” says Marcia Minassian, an associate broker with Houlihan Lawrence. Minassian has been working in the real estate industry for 27 years. “You can also get houses there for under $2 million.” North Street is 2 miles from downtown White Plains, and residents can access restaurants and shopping while still being close to recreation, like golf courses and parks.

Modern single-family homes and townhouses
Swaths of greenery shade wide, winding roadways branching off state Route 127. Mature trees shade manicured front and backyards with trimmed shrubbery and colorful gardens. Houses have a median build year of 1985, and are in New Traditional and Colonial Revival styles. “The area has beautiful architecture with high ceilings, it’s a modern look,” says Minassian. “Lots of young buyers like those extremely high ceilings.” North Street is primarily single-family homes, ranging from $975,000 to $1.1 million. Townhouses in the Club Pointe and Wyndham Close communities range from $1 million to $1.3 million. Neighborhoods just outside downtown, like North Street, are highly sought after, and the lack of supply can cause bidding wars, Minassian says. A plan to build on the abandoned Ridgeway Golf Course, though, could add nearly 100 single-family homes to the market. The CAP Index Crime Score for the area is a 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Shopping and dining in downtown White Plains
“White Plains is like a mini-Manhattan,” says Minassian. “The downtown area is beautiful, full of Italian restaurants and a Brazilian steakhouse on Church Street.” Fogo de Chão, a Brazilian-style steak house chain known for carving meat tableside and an all-you-can-eat buffet, is 3 miles north on the corner of Church and Main. Farther along Main Street is the upscale Red Horse by David Burke, offering modern American and Japanese dishes. Closer to home, North Street Tavern, located less than a mile away on the Maple Moor Golf Course, serves pub fare and pizzas.
