Waller Mill is a quiet area near commercial amenities and greenery
Waller Mill, 2 miles from Williamsburg proper, is a quiet neighborhood near a bustling commercial district. Residents gravitate here for its proximity to green spaces like Waller Mill Park, as well as its short commutes, and its proximity to hotels, resorts and hospitals. “A lot of people who live out there are more middle-income,” says Suzanne Dana, an associate broker with Williamsburg Realty. Dana has been working in the industry for 20 years. “They might work at the hospital. …Waller Mill Road area is right off the tourist area, motels and things like that.” Shopping and dining are along Richmond Road, and there’s a small shopping mall within the neighborhood.
Shopping, dining and employers less than 10 miles away
U.S. Route 60 borders the community, and residents use this roadway to reach the commercial area along Richmond Road, a mile away. “The train tracks intervene, so you have to go to the crossing, so it takes longer to get there,” says Dana. “The train tracks are operational, and we have an adorable Amtrak station.” Most residents work at local hospitals and in nearby resorts and hotels. Using Mooretown Road, the Sentara Regional Medical Center is 5 miles away. The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is 21 miles away. Oak Grove Baptist Church, Waller Mill Bible Church and Living Hope Church are houses of worship within the area.
Townhouses, single-family and multifamily homes
The Waller Mill Reservoir and Waller Mill Park take up the majority of the neighborhood. Homes are clustered in master-planned communities and subdivisions, intermixed with resorts and hotels near Mooretown Road. A Ryan Homes development known as Waller Mill Heights is being built next to the Dominion Energy Substation. Amenities such as a clubhouse, fitness center and community pool will be added. Single-family homes, multifamily homes and townhouses are available in New Traditional styles. They range from $200,000 to $580,000. Townhouses range from $350,000 to $410,000. Some subdivisions and master-planned communities have HOA or community association fees, which vary from $95 to $180 per month.
Boating, hiking and disc golf at Waller Mill Park
The main recreation area is Waller Mill Park, it spans over 2,700 acres and surrounds the Waller Mill Reservoir. The park offers numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking trails, a playground and a dog park, as well as an 18-hole disc golf course. There is a boat launch on the reservoir and kayak, pedal and paddle boats. Swimming is prohibited, but fishing is allowed. Off Mooretown Road, Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf has a buccaneer-themed 18-hole mini-golf course.
Shopping and dining along Richmond Road
The Kingsgate Green shopping mall is along Waller Mill Road and hosts El Sabroson, a Salvadoran restaurant and Peking Restaurant, a Chinese eatery. There is also an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and a Dollar Tree for discount items. More shopping and dining options are available along Richmond Road, which features chain restaurants such as Five Guys, Subway, and Chili’s. There’s also an outlet mall and grocery stores such as ALDI and Food Lion.
