Historical homes near downtown Williamsport
East End primarily consists of homes, but that doesn’t mean the Williamsport neighborhood is boring to look at. Blocks are packed with examples of ornate architecture from the turn of the 20th century. Elaborate spindles adorn Victorian porches, stained glass windows face the street from steeply gabled roofs and cream, mauve and pink paint jobs add splashes of color. It’s one of the highlights of living in the Pennsylvania city, says Keller Williams Advantage Realty Realtor Tracy Knoebel. “There are beautiful historical homes that draw some higher income professionals.” These houses were built alongside Brandon Park, one of Williamsport’s most established parks. It's is a short walk from most homes, while downtown and the interstate are less than a mile away.

Brandon Park gets an overhaul
Brandon Park has been a key recreation spot in the city since the land’s original owner, Andrew Boyd Cummings, donated the park to the city in 1889 in memory of his sister, Jane Cummings Brandon. An arboretum covers the west side of the park, with a network of paths weaving through maples, firs and cedars. The other side has undergone a series of updates since 2019 when the city added a nature playground, featuring organic elements such as logs, stumps and rocks that kids can climb and jump on. Lycoming College finished building a stadium at the park in 2024, making it the new venue for the Warriors baseball team. Brandon Park’s other two baseball fields became the home of Williamsport Area Little League games in 2024. A block from the park, two historical church congregations meet along Washington Boulevard. The Catholic Parish of St. Boniface was founded in 1857, while Calvary Baptist Church was started in 1869.

Well-kept vintage architecture
Streets are lined with assortments of American Foursquare, Folk Victorian and Dutch colonial houses. A typical home is more than 100 years old, but exteriors are well-maintained, with bright coats of blue, green and red paint covering shutters. Most houses are so close to the sidewalk that front yards are limited to a few feet of grass. However, homeowners can relax on couches and swings on their covered front porches. Residents won’t be living next to students attending nearby Lycoming College since the school requires students to live on campus. Turnkey homes usually cost between $100,000 and $250,000. Although the homes are vintage, the neighborhood is not part of a regulated historic district.

Shopping at 80-year-old businesses
East End is a primarily residential area, but a few businesses are tucked among the houses. Ed’s Market has served as the neighborhood convenience store since 1940; its deli puts together breakfast sandwiches, hamburgers and meatball subs for those who need a quick meal. Hoyer’s camera shop opened in Williamsport in 1935, moving to East End a decade ago. The Sawhorse Cafe is a newer addition, opening in 2015. The brunch restaurant buys ingredients from more than 20 Pennsylvania farms and orchards, sourcing its coffee beans from businesses worldwide. There’s a Dollar General next to The Sawhorse Cafe, and Wegmans and Kohl's are a mile away in downtown. To reach other big-box stores such as Target or Sam’s Club, residents must head about 10 miles east. East End is a half-mile from UPMC Williamsport; the perks of living near the hospital mean more than quick access to emergency care and other health services. “The area gets plowed quickly in the wintertime,” Knoebel says.

Near the Little League Baseball World Series
Events are happening throughout the year at Brandon Park. Between February and May, spectators can watch Lycoming College baseball games. During the Festival of Lights in December, trees are draped in lights and a horse-drawn carriage takes people on a tour of the decorated park. It usually hosts free concerts during the Summer Music Festival, but renovations to the 110-year-old bandshell paused that tradition in 2024. Little League was created in Williamsport in the 1930s, and the city is now the site of the annual Little League Baseball World Series. Teams from around the world compete in July and August at the Little League International Complex in the borough of South Williamsport, 3 miles from East End. Admission is free to the more than 30 games played over the course of 10 days.

Bikes and buses coexist with the RVTA
East End’s dense layout makes it possible to walk or bike around the neighborhood or to downtown. Residents on the north end are more than a mile from downtown, so the walk may take nearly half an hour.
