Vallamont
20th century mansions and more modest properties
Homes in Vallamont feature a variety of styles from the early 20th century, including American Foursquares, Tudor Revivals and Colonial Revivals. "It's not officially a historic district, but many of the homes fall into that category," says Tracy Knoebel, Realtor at KW Advantage Williamsport and Williamsport native. Although most homes hover around 2,000 square feet of living space and cost between $200,000 and $400,000, a handful of mansions spanning between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet cost between $500,000 and $900,000. Knoebel explains that more extravagant properties sit on acres of land and feature unique details. "You have midcentury houses with curved lines, old Tudors, and all-brick houses with turrets for the staircase along the side," she says. The neighborhood's western side has homes tucked away in the woods on winding streets. These houses on Vallamont Drive, Ravine Road and Graham Road are largely split levels and brick ranches valued between $200,000 and $400,000, though some original mansions also line these streets. The Williamsport Home is a retirement community off Ravine Road. The history of Vallamont Park and Brandon Park
Over a century ago, the neighborhood had its own park, Vallamont Park, between Campbell Street and Walnut Street along Belmont Avenue. It featured a merry-go-round, amphitheater and bandstand where concerts were held. However, the park was cleared in 1919 to construct more homes. Homes on the site now represent some of the largest and most expensive properties in Williamsport. Today, residents can visit nearby parks like Brandon Park for outdoor recreation. Brandon Park has paved walking trails among flower beds and cherry trees that bloom in the spring, a Little League baseball field, tennis courts and a bandshell. Neighborhood children can also get their energy out at Kids United Community Playground. Adjacent to Vallamont is Wildwood Cemetery, founded in 1863 and still in use today.Brandon Park Bandshell and the Little League World Series
Locals can attend events at the Brandon Park Bandshell. Opened in 1914 and refurbished in 2024, the bandshell is the location for popular annual events such as the Festival of Lights in early December. Families come out to this event to watch the Christmas tree lighting, sit on Santa's lap and listen to live music. The park also hosts an annual summer concert series at the bandshell. Each year in August brings the Little League World Series, 2 miles south in South Williamsport. The area comes alive with hundreds of thousands of fans to watch youth baseball teams from around the world compete for the championship title.Tag's Family-Style Take Out and more restaurants downtown
Vallamont doesn't have any restaurants directly in the neighborhood, but locals can pick up food nearby at local spots such as Tag's Family-Style Take Out. This family-owned Italian shop on Market Street has cases of prepared foods, including made-in-house pasta noodles and sauce. Residents have more dining options downtown, including burgers and brewed-in-house beer flights at Bullfrog Brewery and pulled pork sandwiches at Acme BBQ Co. Wegmans has groceries about 1.5 miles south.Students attend the Williamsport Area School District
Children in the area may attend Cochran Primary School for kindergarten through third grade, Curtin Intermediate School for fourth through sixth grade and Williamsport Area Middle School for seventh and eighth grade. All three schools earn B-minus grades from Niche. Students finish at Williamsport Area Senior High School, which earns a B-plus. High schoolers can participate in the Students Occupationally and Academically Ready (SOAR) program, where they can earn college credit and career certifications. Career-oriented programs include welding, accounting and commercial art. Pennsylvania College of Technology is also about a mile and a half south of Vallamont.Close to two major hospitals and Williamsport Regional Airport
Vallamont is half a mile north of UPMC Williamsport hospital and 2 miles west of UPMC Williamsport Divine Providence Campus. "The hospital is one of the biggest drivers of employment in our area. There are a lot of hospital folks [in Vallamont], because if they're on call, they're very close," Knoebel says. She notes the neighborhood also attracts other white-collar professionals such as attorneys and business owners. Williamsport Regional Airport, which has 10 weekly commercial flights to Dulles International Airport, is 6 miles east in Montoursville. River Valley Transit Authority buses service stops on several roads including Market Street, Oakland Avenue and Walnut Street. Route 15 connects drivers north-south through Pennsylvania, and Interstate 180 connects drivers east-west. Downtown Williamsport is about 1.5 miles southeast of Vallamont and can be accessed via Market Street.
