Three towns with unique identities form one larger community
Just 15 miles south of Greenville, the small towns of Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer have separate town governments, but often feel like one big community. “We call ourselves the tri-cities,” says Carolann Newton, Broker-In-Charge at Jackson Stanley Realtors and Williamston resident. The towns are within a 3-mile radius of each other, making travel between them seamless, but “they all do their own thing and try to identify themselves individually,” Newton says. Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer’s local restaurants, parks and events each make them unique suburban enclaves with a rural flavor. “It’s just the comforts of a small town,” Newton says.
Mineral Spring Park and the Saluda River among popular outdoor spaces
Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer each offer outdoor recreation at their respective outdoor spaces. “We have the Mineral Spring Park [in Williamston], then Pelzer has the Saluda River, and West Pelzer has Chapman Park. They play off each other,” Newton says. In addition to its natural spring, Mineral Spring Park has pickleball and basketball courts, a playground, and trails through shaded areas and along Big Creek. “I picked Williamston because of the park. You can pick up a book and go over there and sit on a bench and read. It’s almost like going back in time,” Newton says. Chapman Park also has a playground and picnic shelters, and Pelzer’s side of the Saluda River has kayak and boat launches.
Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer all host popular events
Among other events, the Spring Water Festival is held each year at Mineral Spring Park. Eventgoers can cool off with a drink from the park’s natural spring, once known for its medicinal properties and Williamston’s claim to fame, while listening to live bands and exploring local vendors.
Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer each host more events throughout the year, and Newton notes that residents from each town often attend festivals in the other. Downtown Pelzer hosts Pumpkinpalooza in Chapman Park around Halloween, with costumes, music and candy for the kids. West Pelzer and Pelzer throw a joint Christmas Parade of Lights each year, where “they have snow machines and light up the Christmas tree in front of town hall,” Newton says. Williamston also hosts its own Winter Wonderland Christmas parade and tree lighting annually.
Small subdivisions cut through farmland
Single-family homes make up most of the options in the area, where quiet residential streets branch off country roads. Cottages and ranch-style homes sell for between $100,000 and $350,000. Recently built, New Traditional and craftsman-style homes in subdivisions usually sell for between $350,000 and $850,000. The occasional hundred-plus-year-old farmhouse calls back to the community’s rural roots. Some backyards overlook farmland, and front yards tend to have minimal landscaping other than a few shade trees and shrubs.
Agricultural education in Anderson School District One
Some students are zoned to attend West Pelzer Elementary School, which earns an A-minus rating from Niche. Students from several elementary schools in the area continue to Palmetto Middle School and Palmetto High School, which earn A and B grades from Niche, respectively. The Palmetto Agricultural Education program allows high schoolers interested in farming to take courses such as Agricultural Mechanics and Agriscience & Technology.
Local dining throughout the neighboring towns
Locals have many dining options nearby. One popular option is Lincoln Taproom in West Pelzer, where visitors can enjoy a beer while they listen to live music on the lawn and their kids play yard games. Williamston’s Main Street has chain restaurants and Raine’s, a casual sit-down restaurant serving burgers, salads and steaks. Locals cool off from the summer heat with a cone from Lollipop’s Sweets and Eats, also on Main Street. For errands, there’s an Ace Hardware in Williamston, a Food Lion in Pelzer and a Walmart 15 miles away in Anderson.
Interstate 85 takes drivers to Greenville and larger cities
Williamston-Pelzer is largely car-dependent. Drivers can get to downtown Greenville, about 15 miles north, by Interstate 85. I-85 also takes drivers to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, and major cities like Charlotte, 120 miles northeast, and Atlanta, 135 miles southwest.

Williamston is a small town where everyone knows what's going on, who is in trouble, who filled the open position at the local diner. The schools actuactually take the time to help the students learn. They want to see you succeed. Williamston has come a long way over the years, but it is still just a small town where the sidewalks roll up at 9:00pm. Their really isn't anything fancy about Williamston other than the Spring Water Festival. If you enjoy a small town setting this is a great place to look.

Williamston is a quiet, family oriented town. Everyone is always up to help someone in need. I would change the development of Williamston. Many things need to upgraded to a more modernized society.
