A Myrtle Grove subdivision close to the beach
A suburban neighborhood in the Myrtle Grove section of Wilmington, Arrondale is close to parks, shopping and North Carolina beaches. Arrondale and the Kirkwood neighborhood are often thought of as a single entity, at least partially thanks to subdivisions with names like Kirkwood at Arrondale. While it’s a relatively quiet residential area, Arrondale is also less than 10 miles from one of the city’s hottest spots. “Carolina Beach is the party beach,” says Jan Roggeman, a Realtor with 1st Class Real Estate Coastal Choice who has lived in Wilmington for a decade. “It’s where people go to have fun.” The beach has a boardwalk with an arcade, ice cream shops, eateries, bars and boutiques.

Ranch-styles and Craftsman ranging in square feet
Housing in Arrondale mostly consists of brick ranch-style homes built in the 1970s and Craftsmans from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Houses sit close together in neat rows. Prices range from $210,000 for homes just over 1,000 square feet to $700,000 for houses around 2,700 square feet. “Wilmington is not a cheap area,” Roggeman says. “Yes, we’re in the South, but if you want to live this close to the ocean, you have to pay to play.” Residents of the Kirkwood subdivision are required to pay fees to a homeowners association and have access to a community pool. There are also townhomes in Kirkwood that are often rented.
Many of the newer homes in Arrondale are larger traditional style homes.

Arrondale is bordered by a major road
A lack of sidewalks or public transportation makes Arrondale a car-dependent neighborhood. Carolina Beach Road borders the east side of the neighborhood and serves as the area’s main thoroughfare. “If you’re in Carolina Beach and you work in Wilmington or need to go to Leland, there’s only one way in and out unless you’re taking the ferry,” Roggeman says. “And that’s to go up U.S. 421, also known as Carolina Beach Road." Carolina Beach itself is a 5- to 7-mile drive away, while visiting downtown Wilmington means a trip of about 10 to 13 miles. The approximately 14-mile drive to Wilmington International Airport will take around 25 minutes, depending on traffic.
The Arrondale neighborhood sits 10 miles south of Downtown Wilmington.
Arrondale residents have easy access to the WAVE Bus system along Carolina Beach Road.

Seaside Bagels is a local eatery that accommodates a variety of food sensitivities. Arrondale is south of a popular section of Wilmington referred to as Monkey Junction. “It’s where Carolina Beach Road and North Carolina Highway 132 merge together,” says Sean Skutnik, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty who has lived in Wilmington since the late 1980s. “Years ago, there was an old gas station where a guy had pet monkeys.” Today, in addition to big-box stores like Walmart, the area has several eateries, including Cape Fear Seafood Co., which has served coastal dishes like shrimp and grits for over 10 years.
If you are looking for gourmet seafood, you can head to the Cape Fear Seafood Company.
