Nautical activities from every direction

Just west of Woods Duck is Arrowhead Park, which offers various athletic amenities like basketball, pickleball and gaga ball. Multipurpose fields and the park’s playground add to the fun, while many are drawn to the park for its 18-hole PDGA disc golf course. Wood Duck sits between Masonboro Island to the east and Cape Fear River to the west, providing plenty of ways for locals to enjoy nature. Visitors can also pay for a private ferry ride to the preserve. There are trails to explore, beaches to lounge on and land to camp on. Meanwhile, there are 202 miles of river to explore along the Cape Fear River Basin. Many choose to head to the Riverwalk downtown to take in the gently flowing waters, though it also serves as a popular spot for fishing and kayaking. Those wishing to get involved in preserving and protecting the river can volunteer with The Cape Fear River Watch. The advocacy group hosts fundraisers throughout the year, like fun runs and membership parties. The annual Paddle Series tour takes participants on guided kayak tours along the water.
