Nautical adventures from all directions in this Myrtle Grove community

With Wrightsville Beach to the north, Carolina Beach to the south, the Cape Fear River to the west and the Intracoastal Waterway to the east, nautical living is the name of the game in the small Myrtle Grove suburb of Woods Edge. Beach days, fishing trips and afternoons boating on the water are mere minutes away for residents of this community. “It’s a really up-and-coming area,” says Knox Harris, a Realtor with Cadence Realty. “It’s in between two major beaches in the area, and you’re just as close to downtown, which is starting to really thrive.” Even closer to home is the Monkey Junction shopping center, full of restaurants, bars and retail options.

Beaches, a river, an island and the neighborhood park: Arrowhead

Southwest of Woods Edge is Arrowhead Park, which offers athletic amenities including basketball, pickleball and gaga ball. Multipurpose fields and the park’s playground add to the fun, while many are drawn to the park for its 18-hole PDGA disc golf course. Further south is Tregembo Animal Park, a family-owned zoo that’s been open since 1952. The park has over 100 species of animals, including monkeys, lions, bears and other exotic creatures. However, residents should be aware that the park has come under fire for its history of questionable animal welfare dating back to 2003. Woods Edge sits between Masonboro Island to the east and Cape Fear River to the west, providing plenty of ways for locals to enjoy nature. While Masonboro Island can only be accessed by boat, there are boat ramps available to the public for anyone who wants to explore the nature preserve. Visitors can also pay for a private ferry ride. Once they arrive, visitors can explore miles of trails, relax on the beach and even set up camp for the night. Cape Fear River Basin flows for over 200 miles, providing locals with ample opportunity to fish or kayak. The Riverwalk in Downtown Wilmington is a popular attraction, drawing those from all over Wilmington.
