Wilsonville is a place of long country roads and wide open spaces located in the heart of Shelby County, Alabama. “We have the perfect balance between rural and suburban living because you’ve got access to nearby amenities while still maintaining a more relaxed pace compared to larger urban areas,” says Jennifer Maier, executive director at the Shelby County Museum & Archives. “We’ve also got a growing economy with diverse job opportunities since we’re not far from Birmingham.”

Wilsonville has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s

Wilsonville was first incorporated in 1897 and named after Elisha Wilson, an early settler. Rich in history, the community is home to Confederate forts that date back to the early 1800s along with an original railroad depot, the first in the county, and one of the first steam plants in the state. Wilsonville is prepared for and expects some residential growth in the near future thanks to the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant along the Coosa River that will be able to better serve the growing population.
